RTA disbanded

Postby king eternal » Fri Nov 04, 2011 4:09 pm

As I interpret the news it seems that the RTA and the NSW Maritime Authority have been wound together.
In July Mr Gay, along with Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian, announced the RTA and the NSW Maritime Authority would be wound up and a new agency created.
“Today also marks the start of true integration across all modes of transport, with the formal creation of our new agency, Transport for NSW,” Mr Gay said.

The full announcement here, http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/newsevents/do ... rvices.pdf

I'm not really sure what changes that would occur from this, but im presuming something must occur, but it might take some time.
“However it will take some time to integrate all services and we will keep our customers informed during the transition. In the meantime we will continue to provide licensing, registration and other customer services, without disruption.”

Tho I would prefer something like the victorian model.

Split the RTA functions into road infrastructure planning/building/repairing and licensing into one dept and put the road safety (speed limits, enforcement camera, etc) into something like the Victoria TAC (Traffic Accidents Commission).
Therefore the RTA wont be putting silly speed zones and cameras in silly places due to some nimby hillybilly or for optimal revnue raising. It will only be the TAC-like dept that will determine the appropriateness and direct the RTA to implement it.

TAC is fcuk'd in Vic - they loaded m/bikes up with a $50 levy to pay for "safety" ads to tell them cars can kill you.

Like we bike riders don't know that, already .....

Should be called NSW horse and cart services cause that's how it feels most of the time. Slow service, slow roads and ripped off with tolls.
