what I want to know is this - of the MANY people who have had to replace their CMC because MMAL would NOT warranty it - can those people now rock up to MMAL with their receipt and demand money back for what is finally admitted to be a fault with the car?

I love this quote from MMAL :
"There have been no incidents of failure in Australia," Mitsubishi spokesperson Shayna Welsh says, adding that more details will be confirmed in the official local recall notice expected in a few days time. "A fix will take approximately three hours and customers will be advised to contact their local Mitsubishi dealer to book in their vehicle."

which should read :
"Mitsubishi Australia has so far refused to warranty any failures of the clutch master cylinder. So therefore none have ever broken".
WTF??!!

yep if it is plastic I would get a metal one and ask them to please fit it for me for free.
I'd say it will be a cheap fix - ie a sleeve. they say 3 hours labour though.... the sleeve won't take that long, but replacing the CMC would take longer than 3 hours I'm sure

You might find that the new component could be made a different way and could still be plastic but improved.
take a look at the new timing chains, slightly different pattern

Edit: made my post read better in english

Clutch master wouldnt be too hard to change out. Just replace and bleed from the slave cyl on the trans. The master cyl are bench bled normally prior to install.

Cmc on the 10 is a prick of a job to change out....if u wana install the evo 9 cmc like most ppl do...the brake booster has to come off....and to upgrade the hardline to braided is a mission...u need to cut yes cut your hardline to bits to remove it....

and yes timing chain would be good aswell....in the usa they appartly put a ring around the plastic cmc like ams have

And its funny how they say no reported faluires in australia

Becuase everyone that failed got denied for warranty under wear amd tear or a abusive shifting....
