Will a clear coat spray prevent our chipping paint?

Hi there,
I'm considering whether to get my car professionally clear coated while it is still in pristine condition.
Well.... nearly pristine. I have many small chips below the rear doors next to the wheel wells, as many owners do.
I've ordered Rally Armour mud guards and bought some protection plastic film but really wondered if a new and better clear coat would be wise.
