Please help me build my car

Postby mechenggdude » Mon Mar 21, 2011 7:57 pm

Hi guys, so I said I was going to go hard and so far I am well on the way. Chrome fog light rings, LED tails and VG have been installed. Window visors ready to install but just debating whether or not to install them.

The following sections cover the things that I have in mind for my build and have done approximate budgeting for.

ENGINE MODS:
My main question, as I am definitely getting the Greddy SE exhaust, is which intake do you think I should get to complement it?

Injen CAI or a RA Intake? I am looking for maximum power gains.

I am hoping I will not experience hydrolock if I do get the CAI. I don't think I am game enough to cross water high enough to cause hydrolock anyway. Is the hydrosock truly effective? Also, will the CAI fit in the aspire behind the HID's?

BODY MODS:
Tossing up between the autoloker front lip or the V-lip. Wondering how I should do this with the black and white theme I am going for, while also retaining the chrome so people still know it is an Aspire.

The autoloker single rear diffuser or the mitsubishi single rear diffuser are also on the cards.

LIGHTING:

Interior underseat lighting front and rear are being looked at. Looking at replacing the dome light, map lights, numberplate lights and boot light with LED's.

I am also looking at something major on a seperate circuit. This will be my main show piece. Looking at a music sensitive unit that would control the underbody, grille lighting and a LED surround to my subwoofer.

......

So that covers everything. I am really hoping that someone could give me some direction as I am determined to go through with this build but would like the peace of mind knowing that there are some of you out there who care about their car as much as me and don't want it screwed up. Please give me your professional opinion. Some of these questions have sorta been answered in other threads but never properly confirmed.

In the end all I am after is what YOU think about my plans and any tips or direction you are able to provide me?

Sorry for the MEGA post.

Check out oznium for the separate circuit sound control. I've got their wireless strobe/dimmer switch which lets you ya strobe and dim attched led strips. Pretty sure I saw a sound sensitive one as well. Run a fused line right from the battery to the boot with a master switch in the cabin then hookup all the sound/dimmer controls afterwards.

As these V-Lips are Plastic, would it be possible to Trim back the part of the lip that rests on the chrome surround of the lower grille, surely it would be only need 1mm or so to be filed off

Thanks guys for the tips. Definitely gonna use some of your suggestions. And LancerRA, I may take you up on your offer once I actually have the parts in my hands.

What about this for the undercar LED kit?

They seem all right and better still, they are in Brissy according to the shipping tab so I could save some money.

As the CAI would be infront of your wheels, it misses the splashing from your tyres. Its pretty hard to dunk the front of your car in a puddle, and as the CAI goes upwards for a long length, rain/moisture isn't much more of an issue than with the standard intake. Very few people have problems from a CAI but its one of those freak things I guess, you can never be 100% safe with it.
You can always do peace-of-mind things. Such as avoiding hard driving in the rain, at least for extended times.

If you ever come across a huge puddle, keep in mind the CAI is on the left. You could drive with your left wheels up on the curb to cross the puddle. :P

Do you have a wife or anything? That is another consideration; don't trust other people with something like that. Assume they won't treat it like you would. Don't let them drive it in the rain :)

Also, I would steer clear of ebay kits unless they have a good website or shop. I also recommend oznium, and make sure to read the customer reviews on their site! There is a high 'customer involvement' factor with them, it is very encouraging.
Under-car lighting is a pretty big mod. Don't skimp on the price too much. Remember; it has to withstand rain, mud, dust, heat, cold and shocks. Theres no point doing it if its likely to stop working or literally break.

I've been told the pinnacle of intakes is the Injen CAI which is why I went for it. Though I don't think there'd be much difference from a RA intake and a HKS filter panel. The HKS filter panels should not be washed so replace them often. The hydrosock is not for waterproofing in floods but water resistance in rain, so don't drive through floods with it. Carry a screwdriver in the car with you, so you can disconnect the pipework in case of driving through a flood.

The V-Lip is made of PU. Not easy to shave back to fit it.
I would say that your Aspire isn't classed by the 2 chrome grills on it but more by the interior. Understand that if not for your leather, mmcs and wood grain trim, it's really a VRX.
Also understand that some mods will prevent you from doing other mods. So you want to keep the lower grill surround, forget about the V-Lip or C-Lip.

Same problem you will face if you go for the autoloker rear diffuser. So long as you change the position where the exit pipe of your muffler sits, the GReddy SE may not fit properly. Obviously, you can spend more money getting a muffler guy to ensure all of it comes out by cutting and welding but that then increases costs and becomes a custom job.

Injen it is then! I will try these ebay guys. As they are based in Brisbane and allow local pick up, I can meet them and hopefully ask the questions I need to.

If it screws up I can always drive to their store and throw it in their face!

Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is the injen CAI will not fit on an Aspire because of there HID headlights.

From what I know, it will be a squeeze but the last time I saw an Aspire, the gap where the pipework goes down to where the pod mounts is just enough.
