Mistake on fine

Postby Stalker » Fri Aug 13, 2010 3:39 pm

I was driving my work car and forgot to grab my licence out of my car. of course the one time i dont have it on me i get pulled over. So i get a fine for not having my licence on me. Anyways the cop wrote down my licence number wrong. mixed up the last 2 numbers.

I know people who have gotten out of fines cause of a mistake on it. I just wanted to know if a mistake on a ticket really does void it cause i cant find anywhere that says definitively. theres always people that say it does and people that say it doesnt

speed gun set up on Caloundra Road. i thought it was a 100 zone then i saw the 80 sign and backed off. then i saw the cop flagging me down.

the funny part about it is i got a ticket for going 20km over the limit as well and they got that one right, its only this one they messed up.

i'll cop to the fines. the $200 for not having my licence on me doesnt bother me, but cause of the speeding fine i will lose my licence for 6 months. All because i was a bit lost in an area i didnt know that well and missed a speed sign until it was too late.

i find it rather ironic really. i'll admit i push my car and have some fun from time to time, but i've only ever been caught doing something wrong when i didnt mean to be.

Pulled over for speeding several years ago - Datsun 200B wagon..2 adults + 2 kids + camping gear !! (wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding).

Cop writes wrong fine amount in relevant box on the speeding ticket.

Pay fine - next time I'm at the RTA, I ask them to check my license points lost.

Result = 1 point lost instead 3 ........... guess I owe 'em 2 somewhere down the track.

PS - ex's father took pity on me and slung me the $90 for the fine - on the trip home from Coffs every police car got the finger, and I laughed like a lunatic !!!

I have heard that they have to get all the details right on the fine else it's invalid and you can fight it, u could fight it in court. I wouldn't put up with their stupidity

I'll admire not all r bad, was on a Toyota cruise and had an off duty follow me in his aurion doing double the speed limit, only did it cause I followed him doing the same

I only read the first post but fining you for not having your lic is stupid.

I would've got the cops badge number and reported him. (It'll be on the fine too ;) )

1.) Say your wife accidently took your wallet and its in her bag and you're on your way to get it (this is a lie obviously)

2.) Remember your D license number... I know mine like the back of my hand :P
Infact I have a script for the police now!

"Hey officer, I know that my plates say that I don't have a license, but I do, honest! My MDL is ******* and here's my license" :P

If he got your license # wrong it most likely won't come to you.

Wait for the second warning in the mail, if it never comes you're fine (no pun intended! :P ) but call up and enquire just incase.

from what i know, its only on the case of the name being wrong. but i guess if the License # is wrong. then you wont get the fine as its a different address to that license #

as long as you're nice to the cops and treat them with respect they shouldn't be too harsh on you :P

gotta remember they're just doing their job, but I agree some of them are idiots on a powertrip

well in QLD its a requirement for all P platers to carry their license on them at all times. thats why i got fined. its a stupid law though. it takes them all of 2 minutes to look you up on their computer and get your licence info anyway...

cops dont care what your car looks like there not like that. iv only been pulled over by the cops once in my car. and im a p plater with a car that looks illegal. they would rather pull over the bogans in commos, that are actaully doing illegal things on the roads then some kid with a non commo or ford. thoes bogans are what gives all other drivers a bad name, as they are doing the wrong.(cause there bogans)

I never really understood why drivers always have to carry their ID on them (here in NSW). My only guess is the computer is a way of verifying what your card says as opposed to relying on what the person says and then the computer merely confirming that it's true.

cops do target P platers and fast looking cars as well as older cars. My sister used to get pulled up for RBT's all the time driving our ford laser cause it was a little beat up. rarely gets pulled up in her new focus. i know a guy who works at a merc dealership so he's always driving the latest mercs, they ALWAYS wave him through. but me in my car i get pulled up for RBT's all the time. not just on roadside ones but i've had a cop chuck a U turn to pull me over and give me an RBT when i was doing absolutely nothing wrong

pretty much every car on that road was doing more than 80. i was practically just following the other cars in the road. but they pull me up, and they pulled someone else behind me up to. another green P plater. so you cant tell me they dont target P platers or speedy looking cars
