Warranty Issues With Additional Audio Components

Postby jamie885 » Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:25 pm

Im looking into having an active subwoofer installed either under the seat or hidden in the boot.

Most likely an 8" Fusion which at a respectable 100wrms should be more than enough.

Anyway, I will be purchasing it and having it installed by a very well known audio company who have done my previous installs.

It uses an input off the rear speakers to provide input to the amp.

What warranty implications could this cause?

Would it only affect warranty if Mitsubishi can prove that the amp/sub caused the issue?
And if so how would they need to prove it? This will be the only non factory item installed that could have a possibility of causing an issue with the car.

If the sub shorts out and starts a fire that ends up in you crashing your car and killing/maiming a schoolyard full of children which then distracted a pilot who crashes his boing 747 into the Sydney harbor bridge which then starts a chain reaction that cracks the crust in the earth which causes the entire continent of Australia and hopefully Tasmania to get sucked into the center of the earth where we find Brendon Fraser and his pet chipmunk trying to prove his crazy brother's theories are correct then yes.... it will void your warranty.

Otherwise you are fine.

You'll likely void the warranty of your stereo system but that would be about it. (ie. if the rear speakers of your stereo suddenly start playing up the dealer will blame it on the LOC...)

Haha spunky love that answer, there is a possibility that could happen :P

With them rejecting a warranty claim will they have to actually prove it was the amp/sub that caused it? or do they just say you have an aftermarket stereo cya later

Im not worried about the stereo so much because I can replace that fairly easily it's other components im concerned about

Honestly, I wouldnt really worry about the warranty on the speakers. You go out and buy a $30 set of AudioLine speakers, they will be better than the stockies.

You are only tapping into the signal from the speaker, it would be extremely rare that it would case a fault in the sytem and affect the warranty on your stereo.

My amp has been running off the rear speakers for more than 2 years, not a single fault. Even when I did have the stock speakers and headunit it. Could not fault it :D

How do u guys run AMP's off rear speakers anyways...
My amps run of RCA cables from the headunit?????

BTW... if something does stop working... just pull out your mods b4 making a claim.

I believe they would use a Low Level Converter to convert the speaker output to RCA for the amp and allows the rear speaker to still work.

Not the best thing to do put effective none the less...
Love that car!

Yeah, I had my stereo installed when i had my stock headunit. My amp had a low level converter built into the amp so i could just tap into the wires from the speakers and connect them to my amp :)

Yeah this has the same thing.

Its 100WRMS 8" sub that will be providing a small amount of bass have a line converter or RCAs wont make much of a difference.
