Magnetic Car Bras - MagnetBra

Postby draevon » Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:08 pm

Hey All,

Just thought I'd post a warning up here about anyone considering a MagnetBra for their cars. I bought one from the US and got it delivered just before Christmas. I put it on following the manufacturers instructions. The thing looked awesome. Three weeks later I decided to lift it off to wipe down underneath, as specified by the manufacturer. As I lifted it off, the MagnetBra took a bunch of clearcoat with it. Not huge sections, but a whole bunch of 1-3mm spots right the way along the back of the bra. I hoped it might have actually been something coming off the bra and sticking to my bonnet, so I hit it with Bug and Tar remover, then Mequires Scratch Remover, but it's definitely lifted off clearcoat after just three weeks. Obviously I've scrapped the bra.

I posted negative feedback on eBay about the product, and this is the reply I got from Bob Lefevre, who runs the company:

"You are a ******* moron. Why don't you do the gene pool a favor and drive that piece of shit of a cliff."

bd-850 also has a MagnetBra, and his seems to be going ok. Just thought I'd post up my experience in case anyone else was thinking about getting one. Not worth the risk if you ask me, and his attitude towards someone who's car has been damaged by his product is appalling.

Thats just terrible customer service. Take your car back to mitsubishi, maybe they might fix it under warranty...

I don't think Mitsubishi would touch it ... has been caused directly by an aftermarket product. When I get time I'll get around to giving it a decent polish/wax and see how it goes. Just warning out other people.

I'd report him to ebay as well.

And some people say I'm terrible to deal with and scare people off this club... . He makes me look like Mother Theresa.

Perhaps I should respond to people in that tone from now on... .

LOL @ Ofey.

yeah as Tim said i have one also, had it for a while now. i also followed the instuctions. when Tim was talking to me about this i got abit paranoid about it and my car has been out in the sun all day for a few days. so i took mine off to have a look, and mine is fine.
I didnt get mine through Ebay, mine was through AutoCityImports.com but since they dont ship to Aus, one of Ofeys contacts helped me out.

if someone replied to me like that after that happened to me I would hunt them down and shove that car bra down their throat sideways!

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car though, I'll steer clear of them for sure!

(My front paintwork is chipped so much anyway :( )

I just wanted to add that I'm actually VERY new to cars. This Lancer is my first.

One of the first pieces of advice I got when I bought my car is that a magnet is the worst thing in the world you could put on to the body of a car with Metallic paint.

The Jap logo for a probationary driver is attached on the front body of cars and they have a hanger for the rear window. They NEVER leave the magnet on.

My first piece of advice was to not use two feet when driving an automatic.

First 3 cars I'd learnt in were manual then I had to practice/take test in an auto.

I can't believe that I used to use two feet in an auto though!

thats cause yours is probably a real one the Ebay one was probably a fake, i have seen the real magnetic car bras and talked to other car owners that have had proper magnetic car bras they do not do what has happened to draevons car.

the magnets they use are very weak for magnets only enough to hold it down. if the lip under the bonnet wasn't there they would just rip off in wind probably at 40km/h.

They're both genuine. I talked to the owner of the company about shipping before I purchased it from him, and he's the one rorting me now. The difference that Ben and I guessed is that my car isn't garaged, so maybe that effected it. I also have metallic paint whereas I don't think Ben does? Either way, make your own decisions. Not worth it for me and just sharing a story.

no ben does Ralli red. metallic paint just like mine. and the garaged thing may be it but things from ebay no matter how much they say they are i wouldn't believe them that they are the real deal. it is very easy to copy something even with the same logos and everything. and knowing Ebay is full of fakes.
