Hi guys, Im in the market for a small car and tested the Lancer. I was very impressed with the car. I like the VR manual sedan and did some haggling on the weekend. I was aiming for $24K onroad but only managed to get $25800 on road. Is that a good deal?

Welcome to ClubCJ!!!

I can't help with the pricing... I have an ES.

The dealers will be keen to move some vehicles now due to the MY10 model change... all I can suggest is get all the dealers best deals and then take them back to their competitors and see how you go. Nothing stopping you from going to the dealer saying what you want to pay and you are ready to go. If they can do it, I am sure they will try.

Where in Sydney are you, would be good to see you at a meet when you get your CJ :)

Thanks Izy_eye, yeh I plan to get dealers to work against each other. I know the MY10 is coming out soon and that's why Im trying hard to get a good deal. One of the dealers wasn't aware of the new model! Im in western sydney near Blacktown.

I managed to get $23700 without much haggling at all.

The 09 VRs are listed as $24,990 driveaway FYI.

I think they are telling porkie pies, unless they have only released the ES in MY10.

Tiff one of our new members has a MY10 ES in Red. Picked it up the other day.

You have to push them for the best deal, they will try and make as much profit as they can to the misinformed. Their objective is to make as much money as they can.... your objective is for them to make as little money as possible :P

Mate, with pushing, you can do better.

Although here in Melbourne, they are really pushing deals... they were willing to do deals at $20K on MY09 ES and VR at around 24.5K (lowest bargain I could get).... so you'd be right to look around that mark, not past 25K.

A tip is to really push when it gets to the end of the month, and they really need to clear stock :). You get the best deals then. Not now, at the start of the month (even with the run out). Downside of doing this is that you have less choice on colours etc. Your pick.

Hope that helped.

A sales person will always try and get you to do a deal then and there.... use this against them, tell them you are ready now and you will do a deal right now if you give me the price... they will not want to write prices down, so you cannot go shopping around....

The secret is you need to be prepared to walk away if they don't give you the price, and not go back. It doesn't work if you are bluffing :)

I worked in Sales for over 6 years, I know how sales people work!!
