I don't know what Vic is like but in NSW L and P1 drivers are not allowed to use mobile devices at all, this includes all forms of hands free.

P2 and fully licensed drivers are allowed to use mobile devices so long as they do not touch the device at any time while the car is in motion.

Actually we can touch a fone as long as it's in a secure mount, so this let's u answer calls or ignore them

Lol no dude. You can't hold it, touch it, finger it... you name it. It stays in your pocket and bluetooth should be fine. But u have to use voice recognition.

My mate was cruising through Newtown 1 day and said the light was red, he picked u his phone for 2-3 seconds?
to look at the time and he noticed a guy standing on the st with a walkie talkie looking straight at him, after he passed that guy some copper out of nowhere pulls him over and gives him a fine for "Using his phone"

So beware Sydney siders!!!!

3 points and $304 in NSW
You cannot hold your phone while driving without the phone being in a phone mount.

The 'laws' are not defined properly.
in victoria u cant have a phone in your hands, so i cant be in a cradle.
but if u get pulled over and its in the passengers seat and your suspected of using it then you will be fined. it must not be visible (ie in your pocket or handbag) you can use bluetooth at anytime even if its not voice activated and you have to enter details into your dash.

Pretty sure for memory in Tassie my best friend got done for it... Her's was only 2 points and $200 for memory.. >_< I've never been stupid enough to get caught :S Although I am guilty to mention that back in the day when I first got my p's, i used to text while driving all the time, but only because i could text one handed with a crappy Nokia :P and it was actually easy :S Now I just use Siri, and thankfully she's linked in with my headunit :3
