why no struts!!

Postby JJams6 » Thu Jun 13, 2013 3:41 pm

Omg how heavy is the lancer bonnet!! yes may sound like a tool thing to say but i only just opened my bonnet yesterday for the first time since owning my lancer :p

but wow why is the bonnet so heavy and no struts!! my TJ magna had struts and thats a 2001 year car....

so next mod is deffenatly bonnet struts.....looked through a few threads and found some on ebay just wondering if any one has found them cheaper then $100 in SA?

Thanks guys/gals

It's only one of many cost-saving options Mitsu decided on i'd assume...

I'm fairly certain that NA bonnet is steel.
The RA\Evo is aluminum.

The ralliart bonnet needs a different strit because we tried putting my struts on Annie's (blinklights) RA and you could not shut the bonnet because the strut was too hard for the weight of the bonnet because the bonnet soo light and the na is soo heavy

Mark (SIX420) is correct the 1 strut on my bonnet was too stiff and we couldn't close the darn thing :(

Would be interested to hear from other RA owners who have successfully installed strut as to where they got them from. Mine came from BKK and were useless :(

Okay lets make this clear. Evo/ralliart and NA Lancers use the same gas struts to lift the bonnets. It is only the gas pressure which is different. Most come pre-charged, but they can be changed to suit the weight of the bonnet.
Too much pressure and it won't close and too little pressure and the bonnet won't lift or stay up.

Thanks Jason, you don't happen to know of anyone here in Adelaide who could do this and what the recommended level of charge is for the RA bonnet?
