It could be many things that cause a tapping noise.

As for warranty on the drive train is for only 100,000km for the original owner. You cant sell the car with the extended warranty.

The problem could be a few things. Regular issues are noisy injectors, airconditioner or idle pulley bearing. These things are very hard to identify and often only a trial of replacing one part at a time. A good mechanic or a Mitsubishi dealer will be able to find and fix the problem. Expect between $100-500 to fix the problem/s.

The first thing I would do is empty the fuel tank then put 10 litres of 98ron fuel and a bottle of injector cleaner in with it and go for a good drive around the hills making sure you open the throttle all the way as much as possible through all the rev range.

Yeah it is the carbon canister, i took mine to have a look at and they said its just due to the design of the carbon canister, just has a loud valve in it apparently.

You can get it replaced however i dont think they've changed the design yet

Noticed this with mine also, I remember my old CE was noisy at idle I'm the same way I get the impression it's a design common with mitsubishi engines
