Buying a new car

Hey guys,
I am currently looking at buying a new car, keeping the lancer too of course, but the ad says that the current rego plates on the car will not come with the car. Does that mean I will have to register the car for new plates? Or should they provide plates before selling? Any info is helpful.
Thanks.

if they had personalised plates they will have to fill out a remove and attach personalised plates form with Department of Transport. When they do this DoT will give them replacement plates provided the vehicle's registration is current.

Thanks for the help! Im from NSW so im assuming your DoT is equivalent to our RTA, and the rules should be some what similar?

It's the seller's duty to provide you with a plate. If they want to keep what's on the car, they need to arrange for a new one to be fitted.

this is exactly what happened to me.
prev owner wanted to keep his personalized plate, so he basically handed them into rta and keep them on hold, then rta ppl just slapped random new plate on the car. make the seller take care of this
make the seller pay for it too. cos yellow fat plate cost 70bux? white slim plate cost 100?

$70 for yellow plates? You may as well go the extra $25 for much better-looking ones.
