Sounds like a gimmick. Speaking from experience of working in a service department, You honestly dont want to know what goes on in the workshop....Its not dodgy stuff but ur point of view and the mechanic point of view is muich different.
Nothing worse then having a customer who thinks they know the world telling you how things should be done.
We are the ones who pull the rabbit out of the hat and if you only knew what it takes to get a simple service done it would shock you.
