Is it possible with after market or evo x manual transmission? Would you consider it, what are your thoughts on the tc-sst?

Cheapest and easiest way to convert is to sell the ralliart, and buy a GSR X.
If you did manage to convert, the ralliart resale would be erroded by something like 10k.
The difference between these two options is $20k in end value.

Im sure it is possible seeing as the RA and the Evo X share the same engine block and the Evo X GSR came in a manual. It all depend on how much $$$ you are willing to spend.
You would only do something like this if you are going to keep the RA. Im guessing it would cost big $$$ to do the conversion. But in saying that, you would be the only RA that would have a manual transmission.

What do you mean when you say keep the RA, as in most people wouldnt keep a RA for long because of the trans?

Keep the RA as in you wont trade it in or sell it. I dont mean people wont keep the RA due to the TC SST. All I mean by that is that some people do mods to their cars then trade it in or sell it.
You wouldnt want to undertake a conversion like that pure because itll cost a lot of $$$ and $$$ that you will never get back.

I don't plan on doing it, was just curious because of the horror stories Ive read about the tc-sst but I think its more hype than anything.

I'd only consider a 6-speed manual. The Evo X only comes in 5 and doing the swap might end up with a slower car. It would be nuts to spend heaps yet yield less performance.

Curious to know what horror stories you speak of?

There have been some SST issues, particularly in 2009 and possibly some 2010 Ralliarts. Some broke down and were replaced under warranty. There are stories about it in one of the threads here.

i am interested and keen on hearing about the sst to manual conversion also, since my '09 RA's tc-sst gearbox is now skipping the 'even' gears in limp mode and being the 2nd owner, my 3 months statutory warranty had already ended 5 months ago, as i owned the car for 8 months now as of posting.
and obviously, i cannot sell the car with the transmission being in this state.
i plan to keep my RA for as long as i can as it is my daily driver, so that's why i am interested to hear and see how the manual conversion goes, if one does and has been successful with the process.

It has been done a few times now and it is a pain in the bottom.
but yes, you can do it.
it would be cheaper to get a complete overhaul of the sst though.
brand new mechatronic unit $2200.
brand new OEm clutchpacks under 2k ... or really good Dodson clubmans for 2600.
You basically have a completely new gearbox drive in drive out for 6k.
expensive, yes - but I suspect a 5sp conversion would set you back more!

It's nice to know that a comprehensive SST replacement is now a few grand cheaper. I remember reading $10K or so a couple of years ago. I'd definitely go for Dodsons when the time comes.

yeah basically 4 (well 4.5k with new fluid) for drive in drive out dodsons
and 6.5k including the mechatronic
still scary expensive though!
