A couple of weeks ago we did the princes highway drive to Vic and great ocean rd in the ra and stayed in Lorne a few nights, I am now very envious of you Victorians having such a fun driving rd that just keeps going like that. The section between about Lorne and Apollo bay is fantastic 50 ks of non stop twists and flowing bends plus slow drivers even move out of the way. That would never happen up here around Sydney. Can't wait to do it again one day but a 3000 km trek is a bit much to do to often. I am pretty sure I've done all the fun rds around Sydney & to the north south and west but if anyone has a fav gem of a road within a couple hours drive from Sydney would be great to hear suggestions.

Cattai Ridge Road - from roughly Dural to Windsor; Putty Rd, Bells Line of Rd - the infamous ones... Hawkesbury Rd/Springwood Rd, The Northen Rd from Penrith to Warragamba plus its side streets to lookouts over the Hawksbury River (some gravel/unpaved, awesome fun pretending the RA is in a WRC - I still have stains in the lower engine bay I can't reach to clean off)

Galston Gorge is okay but gets way too busy and some cars do bottom out on the left turning corkscrew style hairpin turns going downhill. But the scenery is pretty amazing!!! :)

Same with Bobbin head road through the national park, that is a good run too, slightly wider road, excellent views like galston, but can get pretty busy as well.

Yeah I've done nearly all of those except hawks bury rd spring wood rd. I think after great ocean rd my expectations have lifted. Still like doing putty rd and Macquarie pass uphill but is good but along way to drive to get frustratingly stuck behind people crawling around the bends and wont let you by, the others are too short or too busy but still fun, I'm just bitching.

The Kings Highway between Braidwood and Bateman's - ala the weekend ACT/NSW cruise - is pretty awesome too. Strategically placed overtaking lanes, fairly high speed horseshoe turns (instead of low speed hairpins). One aspect that made the cruise great... but I've never been on Gt Ocean Rd, so I don't know how that compares to the 'benchmark'. ;)

Just checked out kings highway on the map, looks like a whole heap of fun. I will have to go on a long rd trip in the coming weeks. On the map a lot of the roads around the snowys look like they would be good in summer months. Not exactly a day trip away though.
