The vans are easy to spot, yeah... it's the patrol cars they have in the ANPR trial that are tough to spot.

lol, my sister was telling me the other day that her mates had been setting around stories of a done up 2010 WRX (as in, GT spoiler and stuff like that, ricey as) thats revving up cars at the lights slightly south of where she lives, racing them and then pulling behind them and flicking the lights on.

I put her right pretty quickly; thats straightforward entrapment, but even so it makes for an interesting story.

We also have a 2009 Golf GTI, 2008 Subaru Forester, and a few other random ones.
Another key factor (in qld anyway) to recognizing coppers is steelie rims. In QLD all police cars are fitted with steelie rims.

Even if they have alloys from factory.....??

I've seen plenty of Aurion Sportivo that still have their factory alloys....

Here in the ACT it depends a bit on the car. If it's a base model Commodore it'll likely have steelies (the covers can pop off under spirited driving conditions ;) ) others will have factory Alloys. The XR Fords certainly do, though as I said previously, they're marked to the max.

ive noticed that (mostly in the cities) that the cops will have all these weird cars but they are for general duties. i dont thing you would see a Echo as a highway patrol, they couldnt even catch a turtle that is walking too fast.

i have heard stories about unmarked cop cars trying to race you, but i know a few cops and they say that its a big no no and would loose there jobs. a local Highway copper got put off his job for 6 months for doing 260ks to catch a speeder.

i dont so i dont think they would to try and race you.

and yes you can get booked for taking off too quick, i got a warning one night for doing, i knew the lights and could count them and i had a paddy wagon behind me, light turned green and i was off and around the corner before the cop took off and i got warned for Neg Driving

We should all be careful with these undercovers. There was a teenage girl who was going home late at night and was pulled over by an unmarked car. Good thing she was smart enough to call the police enquiring if there was such a car deployed in the area she's in. A few minutes later, 4 real police cars surrounded the unmarked vehicle and pulled out a man who turns out to be a convicted rapist.

Remember, if an unmarked car flags you, you have the right to drive to a safe spot and contact the police if the car is legit.

P.S. An undercover with Ps is misleading. He's actually committing an offence himself.

Undercover police cars Im aware of are:

-Toyota Prado (big on mobile speed camera's)
-Audi A5
-Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 (seen a white one take down a VE)
-Mitsubishi Evo 9 (silver)
-Nissan Tiida (took down a girl talking on her phone)
-Subaru 2010 WRX
-Holden Monaro with chevrolet badges
-Ford FPV GT
-Ford Focus XR5
-Maserati GT (black, not sure if its the Police Force's car or just the cops own car)
-Audi TT
-Lotus Elise (not the highway patrol one, an unmarked one its silver)
-Porsche Cayenne Turbo
-Toyota Aurions (sportivo's and TRD)
-Lotus Exige (highway patrol car and I think there are two unmarked ones)

I know the Vic Police have quite a few Evo 9's and 10's in there force as well as a few WRX's. Some are Highway Patrol and others are unmarked.

Blanka - That Highway Patrol Aurion is pushing up somewhere in the area of 370kw, its VERY fast. Stock, those things are the fastest production V6's anyway right? 200kw?

Its not an offence to drive while having lower license class plates on, e..g all us full license can have P1 or P2 even L plates on, but if you do you will have to downgrade yourself and follow the restrictions of those classes you are driving with. I.e. with p2 plate on, even if you are a full license, you can't go more than 100K, otherwise you have broken the law. But it is perfectly fine to display lower license class and drive.

On parramatta road goint to city direction just outiside the Honda Delership on Saturday at about 6 i saw this black impreza wagon ran the red lights and this white Falcon wagon just behind it seemingly normal just like any other car with 2 guys sitting in there not even wearing uniform had their sirens going off straight away and full caught up and busted the impreza driver, i guess the guys booked, i mean you just don't know where the undercovers are these days, they are everywhere and anywhere.

Anyone else here got busted by undercoverers??? What were you doing???

You shouldn't really be worried cuz you shouldn't really be speeding.. but I'm betting these modded cop cars are cars that have been impounded :P If there is such a thing in Australia.

I got picked up by an Unmarked (not under cover as they had uniforms on) in my old car, a 32yo Toyota Corona. I was on my way home after a long shift at work when I was doing overnights. I was hot, tired and a little frustrated.

I'd been behind a long line of cars and turned down a side street - that happens to be the most direct path home. They pulled me over about 100 meters from my place.

"You were going a little fast there. Were you using this as a duck through to avoid that line of traffic?"

"No Officer. I'm on my way home from work. I live just up there."

"Do you know how fast you were going?"

"My speedo said 60."

"Well we clocked you at nearly 70. Are you aware of the speed limit in residential areas?"

"Yes Officer. It's 50."

Meanwhile the other officer is kicking my tires, wiggling the front wheels and the like.

"Well you should get your speedo checked. We could defect you for having a poorly maintained vehicle. Be a little more careful in future."

"Yes officer."

So... yeah I didn't get booked but it was a close thing. Now I'm always insanely careful on that particular side street.

Admittedly I took the corner into the street a little fast but I had a gap and the car didn't have the greatest acceleration so I took it rather then slowing or stopping.

Might be true in NSW, but in QLD its a one point offence, to the best of my knowledge. Not gonna source that coz I havent bothered to check, I just read that somewhere a while back.
