It could be many things that cause a tapping noise.
As for warranty on the drive train is for only 100,000km for the original owner. You cant sell the car with the extended warranty.
The problem could be a few things. Regular issues are noisy injectors, airconditioner or idle pulley bearing. These things are very hard to identify and often only a trial of replacing one part at a time. A good mechanic or a Mitsubishi dealer will be able to find and fix the problem. Expect between $100-500 to fix the problem/s.
The first thing I would do is empty the fuel tank then put 10 litres of 98ron fuel and a bottle of injector cleaner in with it and go for a good drive around the hills making sure you open the throttle all the way as much as possible through all the rev range.
