Report on new a Purchase
Report on an VRX new purchase
A week ago, a new member had listed his intention to purchase a new VRX hatch. His requirements were as follows:
VRX hatch in Lightning Blue (1) or Effect Grey (2)
The only extra he requested was a Rockford Forsgate Sound System
I proposed to him that I will be obtaining 3 quotes for him from 3 dealers: My own dealer Penfold, our site sponsor Preston and our possible new sponsors Frankston. The quotes would then be openly shared on the website in what replicates a tender system (I learnt my lesson fromt he group buy situation), and our new member would then be free to purchase from whomever he so chooses. I would also add here that the buyer was "strongly encouraged to purchase if possible from Preston Motors if the price was a couple of dollars either way as they are an official sponsor. The money he spent would directly benefit the club"
NickD @ Preston was made aware of our tender system and he hasn't voiced any strong concerns regarding it.
In case anyone is wondering why I brought my own dealer into this. My dealer and I have a 6 car relationship and they've always offered me a good price. They've resisted my request to join as a sponsor. This does not detract the fact that the purpose I approach them is purely for the benefit of the member and not my own.
Here, were the quotes:
Dealer: Penfold
Model: VRX Hatch in Effect Grey 2.4L
Extras Offered: Rockford Forsgate Sound, Full tank of Petrol, Floor Mats, Safety hazard triangle
Price (Drive Away): A$30,700
Date: Apr'09
Comments: They had this vehicle in stock. Possibly on run out. It's a Build'08 and Complied'09 brand new vehicle in their yard which meant it could be provided immediately. A new order vehicle (Build'09) was quoted at A$32,900 with a similar configuration.
Dealer: Preston
Model: VRX Hatch in any color 2.4L
Extras offered: Rockford Forsgate Sound
Price (Drive Away): A$33,990
Date: Jun'09
Comments: NickD did not have any VRX hatches in stock and would have to order a new vehicle from MMA so this quote would be for a brand new Build'09 vehicle with a delivery time of 4weeks.
Dealer: Frankston
Comments: deano1964 had asked to handle all communications on behalf of the club with Frankston and the request was passed through him. No quotation was provided. deano1964's explaination for this is quoted from his replies to me below which I have quoted:
I have since apologised to deano that this has come to this. I'm sorry to have dissappointed both deano and andros with our chosen course of action. Both Ozie and myself have discussed this and believe our chosen method of open tender was the way we'd like the club to operate.
I believe that on behalf of the club I have acted transparently and openly in all matters to its members.
I'd like to reiterate that in this as with the group buys, I do not receive any commission for any arrangements for negotiations on behalf of any of you. I make no margin in FOREX nor on your individual purchase. All reciepts will be provided to clearly show the price you pay for anything in this club. The benefit I get out of any group buy is the collective bargaining power being part of our club gives me. The club is dependent on your contributions and possible sponsors financial injections to keep the website alive and to fund the initial outlay for any projects we have e.g. the club hoodie and t-shirts.
Prior to this, I had no idea Mitsubishi offered a finders fee. In this aspect, both Ozie and I are in agreement that to be fair, this finders fee should be put back into the club. Should this purchase go ahead and a finders fee be credited to me, this will be contributed by me back to the club.

ofey,
I got the quote from Frankston. The quote i got is very competitive.
I believe the system that we have in relation to giving the information
to the person interested is not the way it should be done. This is because
commission is involved and also the price that i have received is only valid
if I go to Frankston with the person interested. I believe the quotes should be PM'd or emailed to the person interested, and a decision can be made by that person. If they decide to pursue one of the quotes they can then contact the person who got the quote initially. I am not trying to be difficult but I would like not be involved in this deal if commission and dealers reputations are involved.
deano1964
I'm sorry, i do not wish to share the price if this is how it shall be shared.
I believe i owe my dealer this respect. Both my brother and I are quite disappointed with the way this has been handled and if this is the way things are usually handled then I would rather not be involved with this deal and the club.
