2 Questions re the site

Can somebody please explain to me -

1) Why when selecting posts to look at some require you to log in whereas others just take you straight to the page to view it immediately???

Why is putting a reason for editing a post mandatory????

It is quite frankly very annoying to have to state a meaningless reason like "text" when you go back in to correct a simple typo or reword a sentence etc, esp if making numerous simple changes.

I can not answer the first answer as I never am on here without being logged on.

The second one was done to stop moderators editing peoples posts, without knowing who did it.

There were complaints from members complaining about their posts being edited. No one admitted to doing it so it was changed to how it is know.

A reason is asked for just to help, others understand why it was edited. Most of the time it is not needed but occasionally it helps.

I think the first log in one is for privacy reasons and/or to entice randoms to join the club to see what the threads are about.

The editing thing isn't that inconvenient... Forget to state a reason, and you can just click back, or press backspace, and shouldn't lose what you typed/changed (I don't).
Even if you just put something random (like 'Meh') it at least puts a name to the edit. Ie no post hijacking...

and i think logging in to view some post would mean that we would have ppl joining the forum to help others as most of our "how to" are great in terms of DIY

and i reckon giving reason for changing isn't too bad... at lease for group buy and when planning a cruise, we would know what has changed...

at lease that is what i think

As already stated the reason for thread correction edit reasons has been put in place to prevent any abuse of Admin/Mods priviledges and thread hijacking.
Sadly in the past some now departed Committee members made certain issues personal and waged campaigns against some members
This has now been stamped out for the good of one and all.
And also logging in encourages lurkers to become involved with the site and the club and promotes involvement in the subject matter and sharing of ideas and information.

You do lose the info if you post using Internet Explorer - which I have at work. I Have forgotten about the edit remark a few tiems as it's not all that obvious and have lost lost of my words because of it. Firefox saves your changes though if you press back - but unfortunately I can't use it at work.
