Fog light glass lenses got cracked

Postby niro86 » Sun Jul 17, 2011 4:33 pm

Today I noticed that my both bumper fog lights were cracked (Glass). I got these second hand kit from a mate of mine who bought it of from eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MARS-Bumper-Fog-Lights-Foglight-Mitsubishi-Lancer-07-11-/170607299786?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b8fcccca).Anyone know what’s this all about this? I also noticed that the glass lens gets excessively hot when lights are on. I use H11 standard bulbs and don’t know what caused this to happen. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Being they are not OEM, but after market, who knows what brand and what manufacturer. It could be a simple rock chip/pebble thrown up by the car infront and just by sheer luck hit the lens or it could be they have used not the correct glass type/strength, whilst they were hot, more than likely large amount of water came into contact with the hot glass and cracked, as the glass suddenly contracts on one side and it shatters.

Really what caused it is anyone's guess.

If we are getting a lot of members having trouble with the fog light glass breaking then we need to try and find a cheaper replacement.

I had the same problem with my last car. Every time the glass cracked/broke i had to buy a new glass or light at a ridiculous price. I found a cheaper alternative.

I dont have one. I have not needed to replace mine on the Aspire. But if I did I would look at a good price replacement. This is the first I have heard of an issue. I actually thought they were not glass but the same material as the headlights.

Are the OEM fog light lenses glass? If not I would fit them.

$300+ to replace just one side. You need to buy the whole housing as the lens is virtually the same price and yes, definitely made of glass.
