Front grille LEDs and interior lighting question...

I finally got around to installing LEDs to my grille and I think it turned out quite well...

I hooked it up to my dome light so that it only comes on when the doors are open.

Anyways, I have a question about the interior lighting. I want to install some footwell LEDs and have them come on when I turn my lights on...which wire would I tap into for that to work? Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

Well done. Looks like I'm no longer the only one with this mod.

If you look at your owners manual, check page 8-26 and you'll see where the fuses are in the car. Tap the appropriate one?

Steve you need to make 2 earths for the footwell lights.

1 goes to the dome light

2 goes through a switch which then goes to earth. Any time you turn the switch on your footwells will light up as well as when you open the door.

Thanks Irving. Ideally I would like the footwell lights to come on when I turn on my parking lights but I don't recall seeing a fuse for the parkers so I might just tap into the low beam fuse, unless there's another way?

Thanks Troy, I'd prefer not to make an extra switch for the footwells though. However, I wonder if it's possible to combine both methods? So have the footwells come on when I turn on my lights and also when I open the doors? Would that be as simple as making the second earth going to the fuse rather than a switch?

Yes that is possible.

You just need to go to dick smiths or similar store and get the relevant switches and relays and then wire them all up.

having the footwell wired to the dome lights is safe as they will turn off automatically after a while if you dont shut the door or turn the footwell earth switch off.

Not sure if you know but our dome lights have live power to the lights all the time and are turned on and off with the earth.

When I put LED's into my footwells I tapped into the guages. But that's if you want them to always be on when the car is on....
