Have you checked whether your lancer has it already? Mine is a 2008 VR n has the walk me home feature.

That wouldn't be too difficult. I'm no expert but.... All you'd need to do for the headlight be is to add a relay that connects to the headlights. You wouldn't need to worry about ignition then.... Just need to find all the connections haha
If you get ahold of the workshop manual if you become premium it might help

if you had a light sensing diode in the switch end of the relay it would allow the lights to only stay on when dark.
have a read
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photoresistor
then all you would need to figure out is the timing so they turn off after a set amount of time.

for the walk home feature if you have it , as soon as you unlock your car the light will turn on but this will only work if you have AUTO on the headlight stork. With mine lancer es it doesnt have this feature but as soon as you turn the car off and open the door it beeps and then turns off. But after it turns off turn it to the off position and then turn back to low beam. the headlights will turn on and then turn off again in 30 seconds. I just installed a alarm system with a remote start i can turn the ACC on and start it the head lights turn on when the ignion is turned on from the remote. Anyway im a bit off topic i dont know it may work but will take alot of fiddling around maybe. Good luck

Oh right I read it again haha you'll need a few relays that control a fair bit haha

i think i have a basic diagram for you on how you would do it via the cabin light and have it only turn on in the dark, but it will do this every time the doors are open and the cabin light comes on providing the car is in a dark place.

using your idea..
Hook up a relay to the unlock "sequence" like the hazards flashing (not sure where to find it and make sure it doesnt flash when the hazards are on.) then hook up another relay to the daylight sensors.
Then it will only come on when they flash once (simple on/off relay for that)
Then a relay for the day light sensor.
Then it will only come on when unlocked and dark..
thats the simple way - wiring might be alittle tricky

the only issue to the hazard function is it will flick them ones and thats it. would need to find a way to use the lock/unlock to trip a circuit that turns a relay on and keeps it on for a set amount of time. the hardest part to this project will be finding a way to keep the lights on for long enough.
having them only activate when its dark is the easy part.
an idea on how you could tap into the lock/unlock function without effecting the lights when in hazard mode would be drawing off the relay/fuse for the door lock actuators.
