Not sure if you can buy just the lens but this is a replacement housing and the glass is supposedly much better.
stock on right, clearer upgrade on left

thanks glenn, do i have to pull the head light apart to fit these?

sadly yes. you'll have to pull them apart.
But once they're apart its pretty straightforward and then you can add some painted shields/black out. Perhaps a nice green to match the wheels!
you can try different bulbs which would be a simpler install but I cant really see that helping unless you also upgraded the ballasts from the OEM 35w to 50w. That would need a bit of modification but would solve your brightness needs.
if you mainly just want brighter, id look into the aftermarket ballast/bulb combo ~160$

so im pretty bad at taking pictures while im doing these things
but ive found this
So the ballast is mounted underneath the headlight housing. If you remove the ballast there is a hole into the headlight. The visible wires are the power source from the car. the wires from the ballast to the bulb are self contained.
My set didn't come with the ballast and my aftermarket ballast didnt fit so i was left with a big hole in my headlights. Easy enough to seal up with plastic+glue. And the aftermarket ballast is easy enough to mount out of the way. But if you have the stock ones, id say leave them mounted to seal everything up, run the new ballast wires a separate way. (bit of drilling/sealant)
Ya if your thinking of doing both, maybe start with the new ballast/bulb see if its bright enough then if you really want it clearer, do the projector housing swap.

thanks for all the info and pic glenn
what ballast and bulb set did you end up using, something off retrofit?

ya i ended up with the morimoto 3five balast/bulb (4300k) set off of retrofit. I kept the stock projecters/glass and i kept it 35w just to keep in line with the stock lights. i find them bright enough but i've only got halogens to compare them to so cant say if they're brighter that OEM but id think 35w is 35w so if you want brighter go for the 55 or you can get a different color temp bulb for a more white/blue look but then your not really making them brighter

can you draw where the holes are?
wondering if the denson slim will fit in the oem location?

are those your ones?
That circle under where the ballast goes is cut out on the HID ones.
Cant get the img to work but the oem ballast has 1 set of wires on the side that are the input and then the output to the bulb goes through the actual headlight.
might be able to fit the aftermarket ballast in there but you'll have to seal the hole up first.
