SportsBack Tail Lights Black-Customised

Postby SAM-24A » Thu Dec 29, 2011 8:45 pm

It's a Shame that Owners of Sportsbacks have been completely Disregarded in the Aftermarket LED Tail-Light Market.
There are so many Designs & Variants available for the Sedan, that it can almost be a Frustrating Decision picking what "Does-It-For-You"
I just Don't Know or Understand Why the same Aftermarket Sedan LED Tail-Light Manufacturers haven't proceeded to produce equivalent SportsBack LED Tail Lights.
Surely the Market Quantity of SportsBack's exists .... being that the SportsBack is available in all Lancer Model Variants including the Ralliart.

Oh Well .... Maybe One Day Sooner than Later .... I do Feel for you guys...

Anyway .... In the Meantime .... Wouldn't it be Great to "Trick-Up" your Boring SportsBack Tail-Lights and still remain Legal.
Well, whilst I was Bored waiting for some Action to Kick-Off in the Chat, I visited an Affiliate Club of ours: 9G Lancers.

This Guy there, Obviously Discontent with his Boring SportsBack Tail-Lights, decided to do something about it ....
Subtle, Cheap, Relatively Easy but Very Effective ... :D

He Taped the Lenses using a Good Grade Painters Tape (the Blue Tape - Available from Bunnings etc)
Then Tint Sprayed them using VHT Nite-Shades ..

Meaty (Tate) here in VIC found a method where you were able to wipe off the Nite Shades on the areas you didn't want covered. Forgot what he used so he might be able to elaborate...but it might be easier than having to tape up everything.

Ah, seems to suit darker cars better... not sure if it would suit my white sportback.

I think I saw someone say the reason theres no sportback parts is because theres no sportback in singapore and places like that where aftermarket parts generally come from...

I've thought about doing something like this but I can't really be bothered :(

Sounds like a daft question but... Do you spray the inside or outside? Is the paint weather resistant?
Sportback... because everything sexy needs an ass!

Its on the outside
All you do is cover the parts you dont want to spray and do a couple of coats
Ive done it on mine and it looks really good!! just dont go too crazy on it. You can always clean it up with mineral turpentine if you go too dark
Mine's quicker then yours!!!

I have done this to a few cars before, I put a coat of plastic clear over the top so it doesn't loose it's shine.

The real answer is no not really...
As you are darkening your "brake" which becomes harder for other drivers to determine whether or not you are braking... Especially at night.... However I have NOT been pulled up for it and mine are darker.. The left side is darker then the right... But you can still see when I brake and the 3rd brake light I didn't touch...
Mine's quicker then yours!!!
