Moisture inside headlights

Postby Graham » Tue Mar 23, 2010 5:38 pm

I've noticed some moisture inside my headlights since Installing angel eyes (obviously I've not sealed them up properly and it needs fixing :P) but was wondering how bad this is?

I understand that the bulb can blow if exposed to moisture and stuff, but how long would it take for it to blow? When I hit a kangaroo and it smashed open my headlight the HID blew after 5 minutes of direct exposure but the high beam was going strong until literally a month or so ago (dodgy auto repairer didn't replace the high beam when they replaced the headlight..)

I was just wondering because fixing my angel eyes would be "low priority" as taking out the headlights is a lot of work but I don't want to blow globes because that would be even worse safety-wise, not to mention I'd need to buy another set of HID's.

Any info is appreciated :D

Just pop your headlights back in the oven for a few minutes and secure the clips and glue back together properly...

Just make sure theres no moisture in there when you seal it back up ahah

cheers, but my oven was too small in the first place so I couldn't use it.

I used a....a....a... hair dryer to melt all the glue....

Yeah, you have to be really careful with this. The Moisture can leave a rusty residue on the reflector. Seal it up asap. Another way to get the moisture out is to place a Towel over the headlight and leave your high beams on, But monitor it closely or you may melt your lens!

Thanks I'll try that, I may give it a go tomorrow, I'll buy some silicone or something from bunnings just incase theres any spots I missed.

Hopefuly the weather is good enough to let me take my car apart, otherwise I may have to wait until Saturday
