Hey i just was wondering about a performance chip for the cj lancer. I dont know much about them -has anyone made one yet?
Also i assume it would void the whole engine warrenty? -does it also dramatically shorten the life of the engine, or not really.
Thanks.
Sam

hey Mr.Sam! I'm assuming you're refering to the "performance chips" guaranteed 50% bhp increase for $10?
nah mate, they're a scam... don't bother getting them

I dare you to get it.. Lol...JK..Thats not real Sam. Its all over ebay. Just stay away from it. Do you really think $10 is going to give 10hp or more? NEVER.

^ +1. if you're keen for some ECU mod's Sam, hit up some dynotuners in Vic, that can tune an Evo X with OpenEcu.
Just call em and say "Can you tune and EvoX with OpenEcu?"
Once you find one, take it there (after looking up on their rep first of course). You will see at least 15 - 30bhp increase at the wheel. Provided you have a good intake too. Take it there AFTER installing an intake, that way the air/fuel maps will make use of the new filter. I GUARANTEE you thats a better choice. why? Because the stock tune is extremely rich, so you'd save a bit on fuel (if you drive the same
) and, have better throttle response.
my 5 cents. (since Australia doesnt make 1 cent coins)

Why does the engine run rich?

^ Can't answer that one, maybe someone else can. I just know it is, from people tuning their ECU's. And, most cars (that I know of) all have modest settings from the factory, that includes running rich.

Don't need an SAFC, you can get the same results with a good tuner using OpenECU.
*Note: tinkering with your ECU settings most definately would void your warranty for the engine and whatever else the changes in the ECU affects.

i was just reffering to if any company had tuned a cj lancer's ecu and developed some kind of standard modifed settings that could be easily be installed/programmed.

What you're talking about is an ECU reflash/tune. Not a ECU Chip
a generic "mail in" wouldnt give you the same results as a personalised dynotune. as every engine generates slightly different power curves and torque etc. why? because with a dynotune, the settings are tested and retested on a dyno. a mail-in ecu update wont give you this.
Works, USA offer a mail in tune.
otherwise, hit up local evo x dynotuners using OpenECU, around $300 since you have an N/A engine. if you go Haltech or EcuTek, it would cost much more, as you need to pay for licensing fees.
*Note again: tinkering with your ECU settings most definately would void your warranty for the engine and whatever else the changes in the ECU affects.

with an SAFC, i'm fairly sure you will need to splice your ecu's wiring. and that my friend, will at least leave a "tamper mark", should you remove it before going in for a warranty claim.
