installing SMART KEY?

Postby s84kam » Mon Dec 14, 2009 9:51 pm

i purchased my Lancer GTS/VRX without the tech package (yes i was foolish) i didn't like how canada bundled their leather and tech together because i hate leather. Its too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer.

anyways is there a way i can purchase the smart key?

In Australia the smart key is standard on all VRX models and higher. As for purchasing the smart key system i would expect it to be quite costly and difficult. However im not sure they even sell it seperately.

From memory, the smart key system has its own seperate computer that controls everything. Plus you will have to get new door handles that have the button on the handle, new ignition key thingy...Very Verryyy costly stuff..

Maybe adrian can shed some light on the other stuff thats needed...

As Tadz mentioned, there is a lot to get. Plus the wiring is not there in a lot of the cars, but I would guess it it probably there in your GTS if they have it as an option.

Off the top of my head, the following is needed:

KOS ECU
KOS Ignition barrel and knob
LHS door handle
RHS door handle
Boot switch
The 5 different sensors
The external beeper
The keys

OMG!! that would definately be costly and then you'd have labour fees, in the end do you think it would be worth having the smart key compared to the price? you'll be best to go to your local dealer and get a quote..

SIR-VRX +1 on the post, very useful information mate for those in need.
