Using stock USB Port with aftermarket headunit

Postby xDavid » Sun Sep 06, 2015 8:19 pm

Hey guys, I just put a new double DIN headunit in my 2010 Lancer ES.

I wanted to use the standard USB port box in the glovebox with my aftermarket headunit.

I wanted to plug this into the headunit -

[img]http://www.clubcj.net/img/images/20150906200000_IMG_5620[1].JPG[/img]

Then splice that usb cable with the stock car usb plug cable -

So I would splice those 2 cables together, here is the cables that are on both the usb cable and the lancer cable.

So I would splice both the negative black's together and both positive reds together right? Then I thought to just figure out the both positives/negatives on the other wires. But I'm not sure if this is even possible, or if it's safe? I found out that on the usb cable, Green is a data transfer cable and is positive, and white is a data transfer negative cable. But I don't know what purple and brown is on the normal lancer cable, and if it's safe connecting them or what to do.

Do you's understand what i'm trying to do and accomplish? If you don't understand the photos or what i'm trying to do then ask and I'll try explain better for you.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Well guys i've done it, if anyone has been looking for this or if it's possible, i've done it! Works amazing, and now I can just use the stock USB port box instead of having to have a female usb plug just sitting through the hole. :)

Which colors did you combine?
red -> red
black -> black
but then :P
I want to do the exact same thing so I can use the standard USB port with my aftermarket radio.
Thanks :wink:

Thanks for the tip! Thats nice to know for future projects...
But I'm actually searching for the color codes on the mitsubishi cable, those are not standard USB coded :/
I will try to find out by plugging a stripped cable into the USB port and using my multimeter to see which color corresponds to green or white in the normal USB cable.

When my new headunit (10.2" dasaita android radio) arrives I will test this out and report my findings!
For the RCA connection I have no clue how this is wired to the stock radio, I self have no RCA connection in my Lancer, only usb.

I would like an 'iPod' connection, I know my Android HU has a iPod connection on the back but can't find the right lead to connect it and run the cable to the glove box.

Hi all,
I have just installed an aftermarket head unit and looking to do the same.
Does anyone have an answer as to what colours to combine?
This is a fairly old post, but I thought it would be worth trying to see if anyone had an answer

You should be able to buy a USB retention cable. Contact Aerpro Australia, They may have something

hmm wish id seen this before now - with my xtrons 10" android HU i ended up getting a usb extension cable and port that fits perfectly in one of the spare slots next to the ignition. https://xtrons.com/nissan-various-usb-charger-17-006 similar to that one but a mitsi fit.

i use it for plugging in a thumbdrive for tunes when the kids are in the car, so im not cluttering up my phone with the garbage they want to listen to lol!

**edit** might have to do this mod sometime on my 2nd usb cable, as its just swinging in the breeze in the glove compartment now.
