MMCS In motion software hack ?

Postby acejay17 » Mon Dec 26, 2011 1:16 pm

Hey guys,

Just wondering was there any progress or updates for our MMCS in relation to removing the limitations it imposes on us when we are in motion ?

I know there is a "module" you can install with a switch but was anyone succesful in applying it via a created/modified software update disc ?

Was reading through the US forums and they seem to have made some for thier versions with HDD built in but is there anything similar for ours?

Had a read throught the MMCS deffinative guide and some links it had on the first page but couldn't find anything :(

Thanks whitenight, I already know about that unit.
This guy over in the states managed to edit a small file on the MMCS unit and then re-intorduce it into the mmcs to remove the restrictions without the need to cut or modify any wires. I was just wondering if anyone here knew anything about that.

Im seriously considering learning programming just to get this mod going. Would love to be able to do other stuff as well such as change that annoying Agree message everytime the MMCS starts and also modify the background to another pic.

The US head unit and the Au head units are different.

The reason why they can "edit a file" in the US unit is because theirs is a HDD driven unit. Ours runs off ROM which as you correctly figured requires some programming at the machine level.

If you're keen to learn and put your time to this, the only way into the ROM is through the service menus.
Try the 2nd one (13131342):

There are 2 things there which seem to be related to ROMs but no one has tried.

1 is the PROGRAM option which no one has tried as it loads a PROGRAM but no one knows what.

2 would be DISK INFORMATION which allows you to play around with the ROM directly.

To help you in your endeavours, I can also point out that the CPU of the unit is made by a company called TECHWELL.

Good luck and I hope you can help us all.

I've tried modifying the MAP disk... but it didnt work.
There is no other way to access the MMCS software on our units.

Thanks for the info Ofey, im taking this on as my project now. Doing some programming at uni at the moment so I have a rough idea. Didn't bother trying before coz I thought someone would have surely done it but it dosn't look like thats the case so i'll give it a shot :)

Slash, after reading up on some US forums and how thier MMCS work I do believe the Map CD is the key. For example, that annoying message that makes you press Agree everytime is actually located on the loading.kwi file on the cd. Now, according to one of the guys who has been working on this, our MMCS ROM will not look at the CD to update anything on itself unless the version number or date exceeds the one on the unit. So even if you do edit the cd but dont change the version number or date then the MMCS will ignore it...thats what im thinking anyway but will soon see :)

You can try it, its not easy to do or test outcomes with out MMCS, but then again my solution with the bypass kit came about after I ignored many people and posts about how the bypass couldnt be done since the MMCS has a built in gyro etc...
I even spoke to Keith from Resource IT who builds the Oerride Kits... told me the same thing...

Go your hardest buddy, just keep us updated on how you go :)
