Firstly, worth it or not?
My dealers price is about 90 bucks not installed but saw that through here they are only 55..

Secondly, are the easy or hard to self install.

Worth it? Only you can tell that.
Depends on how rural it is where you live?
How much abuse do you think your headlamps will take?
How long are you keeping the car?
How new do you need to keep your headlamps?

Yes many things at the dealers are overpriced.

Again this depends on you.
It's just a couple of clips.

I've done thousands of km's through hilly/country areas and your headlights are pretty tough, the paint on your front bumper/front of your bonnet will have hundreds of chips before you notice many on your lights

I agree Graham the headlights themselves are pretty tough as it is without the protectors and i have driven to Qld on several occasions now with no noticeable chips or scratches on the headlights themselves.

personally i think they're a waste of money.

we had them fitted to dads/my old vx commadore. But after a while they looked like rubbish, so i took them off back in 07. When we got rid of it a couple months ago the lights looked fine, no straches, chips or cracks. The lights looked brand new after 5yrs country driving.

This is coming from someone who had to replace the windscreen 3 times due to stone strikes.

I've had to replace protectors recently after they were smashed by a rock thrown up on the Geelong Ring Road.

The picture makes it look a lot better than it was.


I'd much rather replace a plastic cover than a HID projector assembly.

They're just a couple of clips that you slide under your headlights. The protectors should come with instructions.

I don't know if it's worthwhile, but I prefer to have them anyway.

I did a lot of freeway kms in my lancer. By the time I got rid of it both headlights were very pitted, along with the 3rd windscreen that was in it

Might I suggest you look into some 3m clear film? Protects as good if not better than the OEM headlight protectors while being virtually invisible.

You could also look at lamin-x.com for their headlamp films. They make them pre-cut. The clear film is thicker than the tinted films, because the clear film is for those that want protection....

Personally, I think they're a waste of money, and when I sold cars I told customers the same thing.

Modern headlights are a very strong polycarbonate, and they really shouldn't break from any road debris.

In my opinion all they do is trap stuff between the headlight and the part, making it hard to clean and putting a film of dust in front of your lights. Fortunately, the Lancer parts are at least a very tidy unit and barely noticable from the bare headlight.

I say worth it, My old 2Dr MR lancer had them. the left hand one ended up having a massive crack in it. Not sure if that stone would have smashed the lens if it hit it. but better a bit of plastic then a headlight (yes i know they are probably also plastic)
