Boot lid rubbing due to spoiler down force

Hi all
just found out today my boot lid was rubbing the top of the rear bumper due to the spoiler down force.

marks were polish out photo was taken after it was fixed.

The boot lid and bumper has a gap of 4-5mm when parked but i believe the down force caused by spoiler close that gap causing it to rub.

I have placed two small pads about the size of a $1 coin on the spots were the rubber stoppers on boot lid go.


posting this just in case someone has had same problem as i have and looking for a fix.

are the rubber stops on the boot adjustable?

no the only adjustable one's are the ones on the hinge and don't think this will fix this
just wondering if there is a diff in setup in a VRX to a ES

Have you let Mitsubishi know the problem.

That would definitely be covered by warranty.

Just out of interest have you checked to see if your rear bar is not lifting up over bumps?

Will be taking it to dealer as asap
dealer is 100Km away this was a temp fix not 100% if they will cover as it after market spoiler fitted after i bought the car

My car is essentially an ES but it has a wing. I haven't noticed the boot lid getting pushed down and leaving marks where you've indicated.

Been doing a lot of highway driving lately 110+km so this is why i only found the problem may need to adjust boot at the latch.
Will get dealer to do this next time im over there.

That one thing well don't need in Tumut the pot hole and the rough roads make up for them our town has a 50 km speed limit except for the highway which is 60 km and i try to avoid the roughs roads.

Nothing to do with downforce, the VRX spoiler dont generate enough to do that sort of stuff. Is your spoiler factory fit or is it non-Mitsubishi issue?

If you do have a genuine spoiler, is your rear bar properly fitted? Have you knocked the rear bar either going over speed humps, coming out of driveways or anything and how hard do you shut your boot?

What are your roads like in your area? Pot holes, crappy surface, dirt roads, speed hump city etc... Also how fast are you going and do you have any rear suspension issues?

The damage shown checks out against the boot bouncing up and down (no backseat fun comments either) due to bumpy roads. Not downforce. Or maybe check your boot latch. There may be an issue with it that is causing your boot to be able to do that.

If it is downforce check your boot for stress and warping signs.

already told us its an aftermarket spoiler and lots of pot holes and rough roads where he lives but he avoids them,

I have the stock boot lip spoiler and an x factor evo x wing and i haven't noticed anything like this.

That area of the back bumper always gets so dirty so quickly though.

It not bump or knocks as if you try to push down on boot to get the boot lid to touch bumper you have to push down with force.
even tried placing soap on boot lid and shutting it a couple of times if it touch soap is left on bumper a old trick i learnt as a mech working at a Datsun/Nissain dealer ship.
