do anyone know of rego plate surrounds that you don't have to screw the numberplate to the car and only have to screw the surround?

i have seen one on a car where the plate was enclosed in the surround and not screwed to the car and only the surround was screwed to the car.

Kingpin surrounds are like that.
Thats what I have on my car. It lets you adjust the hight of the plate aswell,
so I have my front plate fitted in the centre of the front bar.

In this pic you can see the backing plate that screws onto the car.
Its got heaps of holes in it, so you use the one that suits you.

I used 8 round stick on Velcro about 20mm in diameter, to hold my plate on. No screws required, the Velcro stops the plate rubbing against paintwork and when I wash the car it is really east to pull off to clean. Velcro is strong enough to hold plates but does not stop someone from taking them. I do not leave my car in unsafe areas but if I do I just remove them and put them in the car.
The other thing is you can mount them where you like. I have mine evenly between the 2 grills. On yours it covers the top of the bottom grill.You can see from the picture on the left or my garage

yer but i don't want to get mine stolen they cost to much to have to get a replacement set.

those ones that you have aspired does your numberplate have any screws in it? as that what i don't want to have to drill holes in my numberplate. as it has no holes in it atm and i want to keep it that way. that's why im looking for a surround that doesn't need me to fix the plate to the car. if so where did you get the kingpin surround from?

Yes my plates have holes at the top and bottom. There are no screws attaching plate. There are holes at the top i could use, but as I mention I wanted the plate between the grills. The way I see it if someone wants your plates a couple of screws will not stop them and most of the time they do more damage to your paint then new plates are worth. i have also bent the front plate to the shape of the bumper which I believe makes it look neater as the edges are not sticking out.Image URL: http://www.images.clubcj.net/results/20 ... rplate.jpg

My plates also have holes in them and the screws do go through the holes in the number plate. I bought mine from Autobarn.
Here's a pic of my front with the number plate off so you can see the back plate and the location in the corners for the screws that hold the cover on.
