I am having trouble removing the clips off the silver part on the bonnet of my Evo and was hoping someone on here has tried to mod their hoodscoop. I am worried of snapping the clips because I don't want to be up shit creek.

This is basically a repost of what I put up on EvoOz;

Finally I got the hoodscoop off Took quite a bit of effort because I was worried those little black clips within the hood which hold the metal plate in would snap but thanks to evolutionm forums, I got my confidence up! For those who are still stuck, basically get some tweezers or a flathead screwdriver to pry it open a little bit and then use some plyers to grab at the shaft of the bolt/screw thing which becomes visible once pulled out a bit, and it'll pop out. Obviously use plyers to get the other screw thingies out which pop out when you squeeze the middle bit. Not as daunting as I thought it would be but that metal piece underneath was both dirty and easily bent!



To help others who are looking for a review of the Rexspeed carbon fibre hoodscoop, the quality is pretty decent and it fits very well, but keep in mind the following;
1. It's considerably heavier than the stock one and is made of fibreglass+CF... so don't expect any weight improvements!
2. It does NOT come with bolts/screws, so you will need to head down to Bunnings and buy some M4 bolts and washers. I went with the 15mm.
3. You can see your bonnet paint through the hoodscoop hole which looks a bit unsightly... some people on evolutionm forums painted theirs black which I am considering too.

If anyone needs help with the above, more than happy to go into more detail.

Thanks to Toz for the parts and my mate Tim (ej20i) for helping with install and painting my hoodvents... although as Toz pointed out, now it looks like a non-MR!

Looks great mate! Contrasts nicely with white.

Hood vents look better painted as well, what colour did you do em?

They're painted charcoal grey using that high temperature spray paint. I'm pretty happy with the results too because it matches rest of the car.

Can one of the mods please move this thread to the EXTERIOR section (or wherever is most relevant)? Thx!

Got my hood scoop in the mail today....will try and install this weekend...how long does it take to install?

Depends if you have all necessary washers and stuff to fit it in. Also requires a bit of guts and tweezers to get the stock one off (you need to remove the metal plate underneath).

You'll be right mate! I've removed my heatshield once & didn't find it too difficult, try not to force it too much dont want to mangle it.

Also a tip for you is lay an old sheet or blanket over your engine bay, just incase you drop & lose any of the clips.

Installed. Pretty easy in the end. Only issue was finding some washers for the screws. Bunninngs didn't have any, neither did hardware house. Eventually all done. I ended up painting the exposed bit of the heat shield black with some high temp spray paint. Can still see some of the blue hood through the hole though, might paint that on my next day off.

Jace, have you found any excess water ingress through the new scoop? Worried some water might get in were it's not supposed to as the hole is bigger...
