RA bonnet - how necessary are those vents?

Postby ap81 » Sun Mar 13, 2016 1:32 am

Potentially dumb question here....
I understand the theory behind the bonnet scoops on the RA but they are fairly attention grabbing - I kinda like the idea of a sleeper RA.
Is it possible to replace the RA bonnet with an NA one or will that cause too much heat build up in the engine bay?

Think this comes down to how it's driven, around town for everyday driving you're probably safe but push it and get the temps up then you'll notice a difference, especially in summer.

Just a layman's opinion.

the vents are designed to remove hot air from the engine bay and the small scoop is to add air over the turbo and exhaust manifold. which can get mighty hot under stress.

cover them up and you should notice a difference in temperatures and potential performance drop as there would be a constant heat around the turbo.

colder air compresses better than warmer.

I'm more than happy to swap my na bonnet for your Ralliart bonnet. It would be fine in normal conditions. Maybe fitting an electric fan to stay on all the time to keep air moving under the bonnet would help keep temperature down
