I had a small adventure today with Plasti Dip.. Oh Plasti Dip.. You are simply fantastic... except I screwed it up :P Was happy with the finished product and then I didn't like it so i pulled it off all xD Decided it's going to be easier to get it vinyl wrapped :S and I didn't like the chrome with it either ;S

But...

Without number plate! Am very hesitant to put it back on :(

All Taped up :P haha.. I went overboard but I wanted to be safe then sorry....

First coat:

After a few more coats, it was the finished product after pulling the Newspaper and tape off... and well.... I ended up pulling it all off, I just need to get a knife and scrape the rest off >_< The masking I did was a lil uhh :S Horrible because it started pulling the rest of the plasti dip off with it... and this is how it ended up :P

Image

and after pulling the plasti dip off, the only thing it really stuck to was the white spot that's on my front bumper :S I guess it looks like she has a beauty spot or something lol.... But in saying that, I think I'm going to just get it vinyl wrapped and the chrome removed :S I didn't like how it turned out xD it looked like my car had a mustache... :S

Did you let it dry fully?, because that may be your issue, if you peel the masking off straight after you spray the last coat (whilst it is still wet), you will get nice smooth edges and the dip will stay where as if you peel it once dry it will take the rest with it as it has already bonded together thus the whole strip will come off, hope this helps

I'm going to leave it :P and try again next weekend >_< might've been because I used the xpack car wash stuff when I washed the front bumper before doing it >____<

I was following the whole shabang on Instagram, thank's Tiff ahaha

It may look better RA style ;) with the chrome above and below blacked out and some chrome 'tape' stuff around it?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10mm-Chrome- ... 856&_uhb=1

it could either look reallllly bad or realllly good aha
just a thought :)

The trick is to remove the tape after each coat while the plasti-dip is still wet and re-apply new tape (in the exact same location) for the next coat. Otherwise you will run into the problem you experienced >.<
Also, wash the surface with wax and grease remover before spraying, some car washes include a wax which will stop the plasti-dip from sticking.
Happy dipping! :)

Wax and grease remover will get any overspray off the car and neaten up the edges.

What i found with plastic dip is that you dont want it to dry up fully between each spray i only waited like 2-3min between each spray.
it worked for me...
pepople told me to do the tape after each spray as well, im sure it should go well, but im just dont have the patience for that.. ;P
maybe give it a shot.

I left it 10-15 between each coat :P

Will keep that in mind next time though >_<

Am definitely thankful for all the tips guys! :) Especially the ClubCJ Vic guys on Facebook :)

Especially Damir who's been following me on Instagram and giving out advice as well :P I really appreciate it everyone!! :)

I'm definitely going to be removing the chrome and spraying that as well :P I'm going to have to do a search on here how to remove the front bumper though haha :P Although for a first timer, I am proud of how it turned out :P It could've been alot worse :P haha, I was honestly scared of doing it :P Because I've never ever done anything like this before xD but, anyway :P

if you dont want the chrome why dont you plastidip the whole front bumper including the chrome?
surely that would be easier than taking the chrome strip off etc
