ADR on tail lights

I really think we need a contact at this office or something :P

Can anybody help me find where in the ADR it states what level of tint on the tail light/how much light can be blocked out is acceptable before it becomes illegal?

I can't find anything in any of the TMR files.

Don't tell me "it's illegal", "don't bother" because that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if there is ANYWHERE that it's stated, how much can be blocked out. Like some window tints are 20% or however it works in states outside of QLD :P

Ash, it is up to the discretion of the police. If you ask 10 difference cops, you will get 10 different opinions.

Police shit me off. It should be like window tint, there's only a certain percentage of light you're allowed to block out.

Yeah but then it depends on the tail lights you have, how bright the lights are, LED's or normal globes etc theres too many different factors to give it a number..

Shh..
I think we've already agreed with each other enough times for this life.

The only thing I know that you really should have when you do these is that you can still see the light nice, bright and clear at different angles.

If you do the tint/nite shade and all the above is ticked then you really should be fine.

So, basically it depends on how bright it is, such and such (what Jordan said).

Except.. cops just do what they feel like tbh, like they do towards freaking everything anyway.. ==

Edit: added a few things.

Try one coat of Nightshade, if you don't get bothered try another coat :P

Repeat this step till a cop pulls you over. Then you know how dark it can't be!

I dislike cops as much as the next guy. Alot of them sound off without getting their facts right. And that pisses me off.

However, there's one point we need to address here:

Can anybody help me find where in the ADR it states what level of tint on the tail light/how much light can be blocked out is acceptable before it becomes illegal?

I can't find anything in any of the TMR files.

I'll give you a start.

Start looking through here.

If you can't be asked to read
I'll help you further nail down the sections you want to read:

Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 49/00 - Front and Rear Position (Side) Lamps, Stop Lamps and End Outline Marker Lamps) 2006

It doesn't have a definition of how much it can be blocked out. It's about how much light in candelas is emitted by the lamps. Another way of looking at it, Not how much you can block. Sure you can block, but after blocking how much do you actually emit and if that still reaches the acceptable minimum.

So please get your facts right before you sound off.

I hope you're telling the cops to get their facts right before they sound off and not me :P

I will have a read through those tomorrow if I get bored enough, thanks!

It would help if you read it and got your facts right before you sound off as well. If not you're no different from those Pigs.

And if you don't bother reading it (i.e. Not bored enough), I would think its pretty clear your post is baseless and a joke.

Sorry, I was under the impression that this was a place where I could ask my questions and receive help from people who might happen to know and help me understand.
Not be told that my questions are jokes.

It's rare, but sometimes I do have things to do while I'm at work, hence the "if I get bored" comment, ie not having any work to do and having spare time to read them.

But you're the one keen to find out what can be done.

I've also helped by directing you to where you need to begin reading.
I've helped greatly IMHO.

It's now up to you to read it and ensure that your rant at the start is justified.

And did I not say that I would read them when I have the time?
I also did thank you for the links you gave me.

I hardly think that's neccesary, she was asking a question. Yes it my have been answered before, but Ash, like myself, doesn't have time to sift through pages and pages of information looking for 1 ruling, hence why she asked the question.
