PLASTIDIP? How to Apply And how long it lasts.

Hey all getting my VRX rims this week

i've got a black lancer so want to paint the rims gloss white

How do you apply Plastidip. and how long does it last?

If its crap then i'll have to paint them myself

it can be either sprayed or painted on depending on which plastidip u buy.
u get the best finish with the spraycan if u can find one, and its permanent.

I was the same, I worried out pressure washers and little stones etc etc.

I've had my bumper and lower lip done now for about 3-4 weeks and the stuff is faultless!.

I've used a hose, scrubbed with a sponge etc and it still looks as good it did the day I applied it!

There's a thread on how to do this, it's basically spray and let it dry I did my VRX rims only used 2.5 cans but started to peel will re do them using 4 cans next time

I used 4 cans, and it's been on for 9 months now. No problems with pressure washers or scrubbers. Just don't scratch the surface, and it won't peel.

if ur doing it white, might as well spray paint them or powdercoat. plastidip tends to attract dirt. unless u can clean ur rims everyday.

if u still wish to proceed. watch out where the lug nuts will sit, if u spray on that area, it will create a ripple once u tighten the nuts. then it will start to peel off.

Im surprised no one bothers with powdercoating, it doesnt cost very much. If I got VRX rims and wanted to change colour, thats what I would be doing. My stepdad had his motorbike rims done and they looked fantastic. Much more durable too.

Honestly, people use PlastiDip for the reversibility more so than durability. I would have powercoated mine too, but wasn't sure if I wanted permanent black wheels; especially if I'm going to sell the car...soon.

Personally I have been through the process of plastidip my wheels and when u put the nuts back on it does rip it up. Soon ill be getting mine powdercoated. PlastiDip more of a temporary thing.

The only problem with powdercoating is you have to take the tyres off the rim. I suggest you get them powdercoated when you need new tyres. Not sure if it is expensive to go to a tyre shop to get them to remove the rubber. Powdercoating is usually about $50 a rim.
