Yeah any gauges on teh A-Pillar are a defectable item, because the impair vision of the driver.

I was reading the RTA fact sheet and it says nothing is to be mounted onto padded areas of the dash. Now given we have airbags and pretensioners the risk of hitting the dash in a crash is minimal and that is why none of our dash is padded. So from that perspective, unless they impair vision, then I cant see why you could be defected for them...

I like how you can get defected for gauges on your A pillar impairing ones vision yet all the f*&in douche's out there with the GPS screens in the middle of their windscreen's drive free of defects.........

Gotta love logic ay?

Its cuase the GPS is moveable the A-Pillar guages are fixed i know the logic isnt terribly good, but with the laws look at half of them and not many of them are that logical either.

Bare in mind also that when curtain airbags deploy, the headlining dislodges (the airbag come out here) and the pillars have a fair change of being dislodged also, thus possibly sending the pod and gauges into your head.

Yes it is a defect due to visibility, and the GPS is covered under a separate law. It states that it must be mounted on the lowest part of the windscreen, either in the centre of the dash, or to the right corner, tucked right down.

The pillars in our cars are shit, there too big and i find i have to lean forward to see past them sometimes, not to good at all.

The A pillar cover has flexible plastic straps that hold it in place when the air bags deploys, but yeah you have to make sure the gauges and accompanying wiring dont interfere with the operation of the air bag...

Not to mention they arent held on very firmly (only small amount of force is required to dislodge the covers, I assume this is done so the air bags can get out quick and easily...) so you need to make sure the weight of the gauges wont cause them to dislodge...
