Center console cubby

I have the standard interior center console with the big empty space. I wanted to upgrade to the cubby doors. Do I have to replace the entire hvac control or is there a bracket I can attach to the existing console that will hold the cubby doors?

ah ha
so by the sounds of it, you have the standard say ES interior and want to drop in the VRX interior?
the VRX has the doors underneath the air con controls.
its a straight swap out with the VRX interior, i have done this myself.

welcome to the CJ lancer
i have no doubt the console was designed first and the rest of the car was built around it
you need to remove the centre console first, you wont get the rest out otherwise
not sure if the VRX CVT has the doors your looking for but the manual does.
go hunting thru youtube, the centre console needs to come out and the fascia infront of the stereo
then you can swap it out
take your time and take photos of the screws and where they came from
cos they are all different sizes and thread type

Exactly so it is the whole ac surround that needs to be swapped? Alright well I’ll have to keep searching then

I'm a little perplexed? I admit , that's not hard.
I know some early base models came with no center arm/elbow padded rest lid or cup holder lid. Are these the parts your talking about?
Your first post does mention , "Doors" , plural.
My beast ES SPORRRRRRRRRT does come with all these lids , I'll snap some pics soon and post up so we all know what it is you need.

I believe Tywhiteguy is after the yellow part; the little bin forward of the shifter.
On the base lancers they were just a shallow in the plastic, on higher trims they had clicky doors.

My particular motor vehicle only has the one door in that position that flips up.
It covers the 12v power outlet and the phone charger plug leaving a small space to the right.

good luck trying to remove the yellow part without removing the entire centre console that goes back between the seats
hence why i said the CJ had the centre console built first and then the rest of the car was built around that.

the colour of the parts is a small cross hatch of squares, the cross hatch is white and the base nylon/plastic is black

I recently changed mine over (i have the very first of the VRX's which only had the open space and 2L engine), all you need to pull out is the cup holders forward not the entire console. Unfortunately i cannot tell you if you can just change over the cubbies, but you do need to replace the gear shifter surround and you have to remove the section around the HVAC because the cubbies screw in from behind.
