Hi Guys. I found a pair of seats I would love to put in my car, but because the SX come with side airbags can I even remove the seats? And does anyone know if that would cause a problem with the insurance company? They said I can do mods as long as they are legal. So I am guess that it wouldn't LOL

Any help appreciated :)

O and these are the seats, aren't they pretty LOL

you can remove them but it is indeed illegal unless the ones youre replacing them with have air bags as well

Really??? Wow that sucks. I thought because you have that question when you apply for insurance asking if you have side air bags you could just ring and untick it.

Mega Disappointed *facepalm*

I think it's also a defect if you remove them.

Get some OEM Recaros, they look similar and have airbags

But they probably cost and arm and a leg. Anyone know how much they would be?

If you find them second hand they are heaps cheaper ~$1k. I think new they are around $11k each, something stupid and well over priced like that anyway.

think they range from 750-1000 each, good strong recaros that comes standard in the evo. plus its a brand you can trust. Problem is they dont pop up often.

As the car was manufactured with airbags on the front seats, that's how it got it compliance plate. Any removal or disabling of the car's safety features, make the car non-compliant, hence a defectable car and no insurance. So in short, no.
You can replace them with Evo X obtained seats with airbags - as I have done on the drivers side.

Technically wouldn't even evo seats be illegal as it isn't an evo? (safety testing wasn't done with those seats etc).
Or at least require an engineering cert?
Though 'technically' everything needs an engineering cert

So as I read this (correct me if wrong) my ES (dont see any airbag signs on seat) can be replaced with any AfterMarket Racing seats no worries but the very same SX can not?? is that right?

as advised in this Dept QLD Transport page..

also where are the air bags located on a ES, as I have a GPS next to an A-piller on the windscreen?

Code: Select all

Only the seats out of the fn2r civic type r (latest one) have airbags in them. However they have Type R embroidered across the back, not recaro, so it would look a little silly haha
