Prologue:

So despite being your Chief Buyer and being the go to guy to buy stuff for your Lancer, I too have wants outside of the car club.

My current want are these:

ITEM: WTB: Dr Dre Studio Noise Canceling Headphones or here.
ITEM CONDITION: Brand NEW ONLY
Picture of item: Image
REASON FOR BUYING: I really like listening to music when sitting at my desk and working at work or at home. I spend an insane amount of time, writing papers and plotting graphs as a Scientist and I need to keep myself sane. My current Sennheiser is really crap.

I know some of you out here are real audiophiles but I really don't need alternative suggestions. I've tried a set of these which a colleague at work has and I was blown away by the sound quality.

So who can tell me where's the cheapest place I can get a set?
There are too many fakes on eBay which makes me very uncomfortable to buy. Read:

FAKE Monster Beats Studio HD: Here is how to tell a real from a fake

RRP = A$499.00 :roll: :shock:
at Harvey Norman or Apple Stores.
or if someone is coming back from the US it's only US$350 or A$370!!

Do any of you have employee discounts or inside information to get a set cheap?

Don't think JB Hifi sells these do they otherwise I'd be able to get them to get me their staff price? AFAIK only Harvey Norman has them (and boy do they sound epic).

ps. Those fakes (apart from the misspelling of the website address) look pretty darn real and in isolation, you'd think you had bought the real deal too!

Yeah, My mate bought some off ebay, the fake ones i mean. Ebay found that the reseller was selling fakes and the seller had already sent the earphones and ebay gave my mate his money back and basicly got a free pair of headphones. Shame they were fakes. I had my in ear headphones compared to the Beats by Dr. Dre and there was next to no difference. And mine were only a cheap $14 pair from JB....

@ A$499 - A$50 = A$449.

I wouldn't be jumping up at that.

People in the US buy these for A$370.

Now I don't expect to pay that here but it's still A$79 inflated which I think is too much.

You have to keep in mind that you can't always do a straight FX conversion- when the product is launched they have additional local marketing costs as well as the cost of hedging the exchange rate over the product's expected life cycle (i.e. they may have locked in the FX rate at 0.80 which would make it a bit closer). Agreed it's pricey but apart from eBay and other online resellers, it'll be hard to match.

ps. Just checked my usual place I order headphones from online (www.bluetin.com) and unfortunately they don't sell this :(

True you can't directly convert but with the world so small today, I jsut have to wait for someone I know to go to the US to buy one and bring it back?

Another option you have is if you know someone travelling overseas, ask them to buy/carry for you and get the GST refunded? Whilst this is only 10%, it's 10% off the price paid so if you got a staff discount from the Apple Store or Harvey Norman, it could compound to 10% and 10% again (the staff discount is an arbitrary number).

I bought my last pair of studio headphones from HeadPhonic... Great service and speedy free delivery

Your Monster's are the same price as you've already found... & currently out-of-stock
Maybe it's an Oz RRP that they have to stick to??

When I was looking for a pair, my budget ended up with these AudioTechnica's A900's, which I use as my main PC gaming & music listening headphones - Great Sound from them....
