Finally the ebay seller has some in stock. Just bought 2 cans.

Just a note, shipping is expensive because its considered flammable. Can't really save on that.

I am sure I saw a full range of plasti-cote spray cans at my local bunnings the other day.

Plasti-cote and plasti-dip are quite different. Plasti-cote, I believe, is for plastic surfaces, so requiring necessary prep. Plasti-dip is a plastic paint in itself.

I will take a pic of the product.
I am sure it said something like "durable coating suitable for most surfaces"

Just Spoke to Plastidip Distributor

Postby aussie027 » Wed Nov 10, 2010 2:42 pm

Guys,

I just spoke to the manager, Kevin Corry at Plastidip,

http://www.plastidip.net.au

He has 30 odd cans black spray in stock, it is $33/can plus courier shipping. Cannot post as it is Dangerous Goods.

Shipping to Perth for eg is approx $30 for the first Kilo which will be 2 cans??. He said 1,2 or3 cans will be approx the same cost as it is a small increase per extra KG/part thereof.
There are very few distributors left around Aust he said due to many not wanting to carry it plus issues he had with some.
There is also a new product of Plastidip,on their website where you can tint your own colour and spray on using mini sprayer bottles.

He said he would offer a discount for a bulk order of 20-30 tins plus of course there would be a large saving in shipping costs depending on how many shipment locations were involved. Just a thought, Maybe Irving could run an EOI to check demand??

If you do not want to pay such a large amount per can then forget the Plastidip and go buy a can of flat black auto paint from a supplier and just use paint. Masking effort is the same , only diff will be the need to do a light sanding to roughen up the bumpers a little with a fine grit wet/dry paper.

I used Plastidip on my bumper after finding it on a use website nearly 2 yrs ago, still looks good/no problems.
There is a huge thread with all details on how to use it etc so search for it if interested please.
I hope that helps those interested.

I imagine if you do it well and get it right, one can should be sufficient.

This is by far, the most expensive option (unless you're in the US, where it's 1/3 of the price). While it's a great product, it can be a waste if not done well. Also, the only way to correct mistakes is to peel it all off...

I've bought 2 cans.. .. so if I have any left over I can sell it to anyone who wants it (of course it will have to be pick-up as its flammable.)

Bandit,
1 can is more than enough to put 4-5 coats on the front bumper AND the top grill surround which is not pure black but a charcoal grey colour.

The actual grill plastic top and bottom is pure black.

All details on how to remove grill and use Plastidip is in the other main thread on this topic.

Bruno : You bought 2 cans for close to $90? Thinking about doing the same myself as I've had a bad experience with the vinyl for blacking out the front bumper.

Edit: Second question I'll ask in the main topic.

Hey Danni, my vinyl seems to be ok for now - I will plastidip the front only when the vinyl starts to fail I suppose. I'm going to be doing my rear bumper soon so I'll report how much I'll have left.

It was more like $80 for me for 2 cans. It will give the effect on the rear bumper I want so its cheaper than a rear diffusor - besides when I sell it I can just peel it off.

Just thought I would let you guys know I picked up 2 cans of black plasti-dip for $72 at a boat store in Perth (All Boat Business - they had a few cans left of black as of 17/12/10 if anyone in Perth was looking :)). So if you have tried all your local auto shops and hardware shops with no luck, give the boating stores a go!
