Hi all

Just bought a 2009 Ralliart Lancer. It's totally stock as far as I know. So far it's great except I'm not sure how to use the RCA ports with my phone to play music on the stock stereo. All I get is a buzzing sound whether there is something plugged in or not when I change the stereo to AUX setting. Anyone know how I can get it to work?? Android phone if that helps.
Cheers!

Welcome :)

Thats odd. You're using an RCA cable right?

There shouldn't be a buzzing sound if theres nothing plugged in... So either its not plugged in properly or theres something wrong with it...

Disconnect the cable entirely and see if it still buzzes... If so theres probably something wrong with it. You're probably still just under warranty so you should get it looked at if its not something obvious :)

Edit: I suppose it could be your phone. The test will be if the buzzing stops with nothing plugged in.

Hi Dire thanks for your prompt reply

Yeah i suspect something is wrong.

Welcome to the club.

This is the problem second hand cars especially if a private sale. Your car may have been fitted with an after market stereo and the rca cable disconnected. Then the seller returned the stock stereo in without hooking up the rca connectors.

If you bought your car from a dealer let them fix the problem under warranty. If not you can attempt to pull the dash apart and check all the wiring is still in original condition and plugged in. This is all easy to do and there are many threads covering this and even utube videos on it.

You could also take your car to a stereo specialist so they can look at it for you. They will probably try to sell you a new system though.

Let us know how you go.

Congrats on the purchase, shame about the small audio issue, but hey, once you get it resolved (and it should not be too hard or costly), you'll have a great car. So chin up! :D

I'm not sure what kind of buzzin you are getting, but I have a stock Rockford Fosgate and when i have it on AUX and volume up, with the RCA L & R cables plugged into their ports but nothing attached to the 3.5mm stereo plug, I do get a pulsating hum.

I know some have suggest the RCA input may not have been connected correctly to the headunit. This might be the case, one way to check this is, everytime you plug the 3.5mm jack into a headphone socket, you'll get some audible clicks on the speakers.
so as part of troubleshooting what I would like you to do is, put the head unit on AUX, with the RCA cable plugged into the L & R ports, put the volume up to say "20". Then plug the 3.5mm plug into your android phone, if the RCA connectors are connected the back of the head unit, you should be hearing some loud and distinct click/bangs as you insert the jack into the headphone socket of the android handset.
If you do, then your AUX ports are connected to the back of your headunit, then we are looking a possible problem with the settings on the android. Have you tried another device with a headphone socket, maybe a friend's iPhone/iPod?

Let us know how you go, with a bit of troubleshooting we can narrow down to what it may or may not be and set you on the right path to get it fixed... hopefully :)

I wouldn't call it a dud man. Its just one little problem that is probably a matter of re-connecting some cables or something.

People sell their headunits occasionally too so even if its 'ruined' you can still pick up another for a decent price, or use it as an excuse to upgrade the sound system.

Best of luck! :)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

In AUX mode the stereo makes a weird sort of modem noise, Like a beeping almost. It's hard to describe. The noise is constant and doesn't change whether something is plugged in or not. There are no sound pops or anything when i plug the RCA cable in or the phone.
I'm going to take it to a Ralliart dealer and hope they know how to fix it, and maybe find out if there are any sort of performance mods.

Apart from that the baby seat mounts on each side of the rear seats is missing as well as the panels that cover them, however the center mount and panel is still there. I think they used the other two panels for something other than baby seats.

There is at least one missing screw for the center console. I knew the interior would have been taken apart, It's been put back together properly and not broken but the thing I've noticed about this Lancer is the plastics are all a bit loose.

Oh yeah do all of these Ralliart Lancers come with a full size spare? Mine has one but it seems as though you loose a fair amount of boot space cos they put foam risers in to house the spare.

I got it for a fairly good price but it's seen a bit of action this car.

And to end this chapter this car is absolutely everything I've ever wanted in a vehicle and suits me really well - cheap, nasty and fast.
