New VRX in Perth

Postby Itachi » Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:58 am

I'm Dave, from Perth (NoR), nice to meet you all!

I've been browsing for a little while now and thought it was about time I started posting.

I can't wait to start doing some of the cool mods I've seen so far and I hope to see some of the WA members out and about.

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled! :D

Thanks mate,

I have already seen some good looking cars and you seems like a really good club. I must admit this is my first time even considering a mod so the offer of info might come in handy! I'm normally of the opinion that it isn't worth the risk (insurance, cops etc) but for some reason I can't stop thinking about mods for the Lancer. It's like it was made for mods!!

At least thats what I will be telling myself when I have no money left... :D

Oh...and NoR is way cooler! 8)

Hey Dave,

welcome to the club!

There are plenty of mods you can do without having any insurance/police issues :)
one of the most common would be a piece of vinyl over part of the front bumper which is also cheap & easy to do

We have a monthly cruise next Friday, you should come down if you're free :)

SoR is more awesome :P

Welcome to the club Dave.

You wouldn't happen to have a 2.4L ?

We are looking for a car that RPW can do some testing on for a tune.

It would be great if you could help us out.

I believe you will receive a free tune and any parts you like to keep at a discount. You will really notice the performance improvement from the RPW tune. More power and fuel efficiency.

They only need your car for a day.

Thanks guys,

I will have to come on a cruise at some stage so I can see all your cars in the flesh. It will be like window shopping for mods that I like :P

Sounds like a good deal. I only got my car a week ago so I am still running in the engine (no excessive acceleration till 1000km...:() and I would assume they would need to rev it pretty hard to do a proper test so it might have to wait till I've got some more km's under my belt.

Just out of curiosity, if you tune the car before doing the mods I was planning doesn't that make it obselete for the future? I have read that you should do the mods first then tune the car...?

Probs better to PM me the details :)

David good idea to drive your car before driving it too hard.

It should not need to be run in. It is more you getting to know the car.

Yes you are best to do all your mods before tuning.

But RPW only want to do a safe tune for generic cars. All the settings are on the safe side as each engine and conditions are slightly different.

RPW will need your car so they can test its capabilities with different mods on it.

Lucky for you your car will be custom tune or put back to origin if you desire.

To know more look in the RPW section as there is heaps of info there for you to read. Or even better go past RPW and talk to David as he will explain every thing.

You will be helping a lot of us members out if you can do this for us. It would be much appreciated.

RPW need a 2.4L CVT, if yours is manual they don't need to do testing...

Their tune is general, not mod-specific. Its not *really* worth getting a custom tune done unless you're spending a fair bit on the car.

Hope to see you on the cruise!

David,
If yours is a manual give David at RPW a call anyway, he still may need a manual to refine his basic 2.4L tune.

Even If he doesnt the tune will give you some definite improvements but you may need to also at least replace your muffler for a high flow type and possibly your air filter to notice it to best effect.

The big chambered Mitsu mufflers really slow the exhaust flow down and stop our cars breathing well. I noticed a big difference when I replaced mine. I also have a K & N airfilter, RA intake and open intake slot area .
Any Q ask away, I can PM you since you will need 20 posts before you can pm anyone. I did a lot of research on all these mods nearly 2 yrs ago. Let me know. :D

Thanks for that aussie, I will still get in touch with RPW as I'm looking into a lot of their products. Although I was just reading that messing with the ECU will likely void the warranty... :?

A new air filter is right up there on the list as from most of the threads I've read they are a cheap and easy way to improve performance. Although members seem divided as to the K&N oil filter or the HKS (I think thats the brand) dry filter. Just to be a pain, I saw in ofey's thread an OEM mitsu sports filter, is it even worth going OEM or are K&N/HKS way better?

I really like the idea of the RA intake, looks awesome. Does it give a noticable improvement?

I have seen rough prices for the filter and RA intake but haven't read much about the mufflers. I think a full exhaust system upgrade is beyond me financially atm so does that mean it's not worth changing the muffler? (Sorry, I really am new to all this so if these are stupid questions/should be posted elsewhere forgive me!)

David we can not give you an answer whether there is any improvement with replacing the air filter.

This is why RPW need your car so they can get dyno results comparing before and after results with different parts and tunes.

Velkommen! (No idea how to spell that correctly :P )

Great to see another NoR dweller! We need to build up the strength of our marvelous side! Not to mention RPW is NoR too ;)

With your warranty question, from what I understand RPW will flash your ECU with the same name as the original tune, thus the Mitsubishi mechanics will not be able to tell.

I have the RA intake, the only change I really notice is the slight deeper sound and I can hear the intake sucking in air. Performance wise is not huge. I can't really tell that much difference. I also have the Blitz LM Sus Power filter paired with that. Got it for $75 from a group buy I thought it was a bargain compared with $110 for a K&N!

Anyway, enjoy your stay :)
