I have a small knowledge on cars and i am wondering if i need to do an engine swap for putting a turo in (when i get 1) and what would you recommend for the motor and turbo duo? thanks in advance, my lancer is a 08 VRX manual.

You don't need a new engine. Look at getting parts from a Ralliart owner who has done a turbo swap e.g. turbo, intercooler, piping, lines, etc. Where are you located? You'll also need to find a reputable shop to do the work and possibly tune it (?).

Also be aware that it's quite expensive to do and you'll be running low boost with power <= a stock Ralliart

Are you sure about that? Being a VRX, wouldn't the block be a 2.4L 4B12? It was my understanding that there was no straight forward 4B12 turbo upgrade path like the 4B11 to 4B11T conversion I think you were suggesting...

I'd recommend getting a good tune, and maybe do better than those 2L stock RAs anyway... *flame*

2008 model year VRX is 2.0L. But there'd be less involved ways to turbo a 4B12 rather than having to switch back to a 4B11 if the RA/Evo bits didn't directly fit.

Easiest, cheapest and safest approach is to purchase a RalliArt complete with 2ltr turbo standard
Or depending on how deep your pocket is an EVO.

If you want a turbo, like sarusa said ^^... They're AWD too... The RA is a single-scroll turbo, the EVO X has a twin-scroll...

iirc, the internals weren't up to it in the 4B12... *facepalm*

Was that built '08 an MY08 or MY09? 2.0L (4B11) or 2.4L (4B12)...?

I'd second this, do light mods on your Lancer and save for a RA. Turbo goodness without the hassles of getting a conversion certified. Will probably cost less and be much safer (AWD) in the end.

Job done mate :D but as the other blokes have said, the best option is to save up and get the car with the goods, there is usually alot more to it than just an engine change, there is cluches and brakes to think about, more power to go = more power to stop, and also the fact a standard clutch would last maybe 5000km under that much stress ( if your lucky) so the cost rapidly balloons out to just buying an RA. saw one on carsales for around 7K was a hatchback, but still a good going over and you should be okay. and if you want you have a VR-X manual box to put in it and take out the SST

Better off buying a manual Evo, that way you don't have the issue of the ticking time bomb of the SST. :)
