Hi, I'm new
I have a 2012 Lancer ACTiV.
I'm looking for some advice on exhaust systems or some sort of modifications that will increase performance and give it a nice sound. Also something that will not be enough to attract attention from Police as I'm still on red P's.
so if someone could point me to something like that, I would be very grateful!

Exhausts can be fun - single or dual, bolt-on or custom - best thing is to get recommendations from members nearby. And you don't have to spend a fortune - just work to a budget you're comfortable with.
I went the custom route last time, but have my eye on a ready-made one, but no money...

Welcome!
Cat back or x force I have heard good things about. ..
But as said above, search this forum and you will find a suitable exhaust for your budget

Yes, and very illegal... try two in-line hot dogs; one before the axle, one just before the outlet - bassy, but not too loud.

Thanks for letting me know!
Some people had told me straight pipes were legal, some had said they were illegal and that I should just get a cannon and others say cannons make you loose too much back pressure, so it gets confusing sometimes.
Would the hot dogs give me any sort of slight increase in power?

no kind of exhaust mod is going to give you any real increase in power without a tune, if that's what you're after, you'll need an RA intake and Cosworth (or similar) panel filter as well as the exhaust and then get a tune done. The tune is what will give you a power increase, the intake and exhaust mods will maximise the amount of gains you make, but it'll likely be 10-15% tops...
But you're likely to have to go to Sydney for the tune unless someone knows someone closer?
Just modifying the exhaust on is own will only really change the sound...
