So sort of new to the whole modifying the car thing. Ive got a 2013 lancer es with sports kit on it (so slightly 'sportier' body kit, 19's on it) and basically i want to start looking at performance modifications.
I know its not performance as suck but ive already installed coilovers and have recently installed just an axel back exhaust, just wanted a better sound.
Now ive read that a cold air intake is pretty much my next best bet in terms on mods, and am very intrigued, but not quite sure what Intake system to get.
read alot on here that K&N seem to be the way to go, but in terms of installing and what not is it easy enough for any tom dick and harry to do??
just want some feedback on what to get and how easy to install, and what sort of gains i'd be getting, be in performance or sound. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

To be completely honest with you mate, you won't get huge gains with the CAI alone, you're better off getting a catback exhaust (with a high flow cat) and headers, then put a CAI in (I have injen and love it, increases throttle response and sounds awesome).
Once you have that done, go see Beeble(95% sure he's in Melbourne) and get a tune done. You will notice a big difference after the tune.
As far as the injen CAI goes, it's pretty simple to install, you have to remove your bumper though. Took me about an hour and I'm not a mechanic by any means.

Best bet- at least a knn air filter with RA snorkel and cat back exhaust and tune. Ive noticed little to no difference with just adding a knn filter (actually car was slower to 100km but that is most likely weight and human error)

CAI will make no different to a standard-tuned car at all - check the monster car mods YouTube channel and see their dyno runs across different brands/types.
It will help when you get a custom-tune, speak to Beeble or Merlin on this and don't believe what anyone says if they can't back up their claims with a before-and-after dyno chart from their own vehicle - don't believe the manufacturer's marketing either. I did a before & after on my Monaro and it made a few Kw difference out of a mild 242RWKW tune, so percentage-wise its not much...
Either get the K&N kit if you want a pod-style intake or simply grab an RA snorkel and a K&N panel filter. If you want a 'proper' cold air intake, you need a ram in front of your radiator or an 'old-school' bonnet-scoop...
Without wanting to upset owners, avoid the Injen type as the intake pipe is way too long - as someone posted on another thread, it's like trying to drink through a straw - the longer the straw, the harder it is to suck up the drink...
Remember, if you are going to change your intake, you may affect the fuel/air ratio if you cock up the MAF, and again, bye-bye warranty. Get an expert to do it...
If your car is still under warranty, avoid changing the catalytic convertor, MMA won't be to pleased and you can affect the ADR for the car, but there's plenty you can do cat-back.
Tuned-length extractors are only of any real use if you're going to build a race engine on a nice, noisy bench, normal extractors are fine if you want a serious tune, but an ES is probably be going to be fine with the stock manifold, so unless you come across a cheap set and know the installer, you are best spending your cash elsewhere.

its not about performance all the time
I've seen the mcm video and i know they don't do anything to performance but intake produces like 40% of the cars sound
