Hi Guys

I've just bought my first brand new car - an ES Lancer (Manual).

I've looked through the forums, and I couldn't really find answers to a few questions I have about servicing, and a few other things. I'm hoping someone might have an opinion on them:
1. I paid $16,500, did I pay too much?
2. Does Mitsubishi really recommend Gulf Western oil, or is that just what is cheapest for the dealership?
3. Does the handbrake have to be pulled up a lot higher in the lancer than it does on most other cars?
4. if I choose not to have my car serviced at an "authorised" dealer, and for whatever reason, Mitsubishi decides that my mechanic doesn't meet their requirements (I'll try my best to retain it by getting the oil+filter from the dealer - but I really don't want to put gulf western rubbish in my car); can Mitsubishi refuse to honour the warranty in other respects i.e. if my power windows fail, can they refuse to honour warranty?
5. I tried changing the service interval reminder per
the instructions but it didn't work - does anyone know if this has been locked in the MY14 or is it not possible to change reminders before the first service
6. In attempting 5. above I've reset the service indicator to show the next service 12 months/15000km - is there any way to reverse this?

Sorry about all of the silly questions - I do about 30000km a year, and I just want to ensure that my car is reliable for the duration of my ownership.

Thanks Guys.

Wow, they were fast responses.

TrojanHorse 1. the reason I asked about the price is because my wife now wants one (but she wants the auto, and they won't budge under $20k)

6. Trying to change it to warn me every 10,000km. I know that this car is a lot better, but the engine oil in the Getz I used to have came out pretty dark after 10,000km - admittedly I never had any sort of engine trouble, but oil is cheap, an engine is expensive - Mitsi won't care what condition my engine is in after 5 years/130,000km, but I probably will LOL.

Thanks a lot for your responses, I really appreciate your time

Welcome to Club CJ! :D

1) $16,500 sounds like a reasonable price for a CJ Lancer, really depends though what year it is too I suppose! :)

2) It really depends on the dealership to what oil they use, probably what they get cheapest most likely! :)

4) I would always have the car serviced at a Mitsubishi dealer just to be on the safe side to keep your warranty, it might be worth spending the extra few dollars to retain the warranty, I had a Smart Key on my VRX die which costed around $450 to buy and get it programmed!

If you aren't happy with a dealership try another one, doesn't matter where you service it as long as it is Mitsubishi dealership to retain your warrranty! You could also supply your own parts or oil too if you wish! :D
