marked paint

hey guys i have had my car for all of about a week, there was a black mark on the bonnet that looked like the crap of some animal, tried to get it out with a sponge and water. the blob came off, but it left behind a blac mark on the paint, i stupidly let my friend use "kittens cut and polish" to remove the mark. The mark came off fine! but it has left behind a dull swirl from where the microfibre cloth has rubbed on it. It hasnt hit the metal, but it just looks like a coating over the top of the paint, i cant really tell. i rubbed it for ages with just my finger and was able to make it a little less noticeable but at the right angle, u can still see the mark.. Is my paint screwed, or is there something i can do to remove the mark?
