Don't zip tie it, use a big washer and a screw/bolt with a nut to clamp it there. :)

Yeah - if u wanna mount it down there what I did was take the 2 threaded metal clips out when u take off the numberplate (this will become more clear as you take it off) and then,
Reach down into the engine bay after taking off that frontmost plastic cover and hold the threaded clips against the inside of the lower-grill while screwing a screw through the numberplate and the grill from the opposite side. These clips sorta "spring" a bit and hold the numberplate on more firmly and securely, this is how I've got mine attached.

Was thinking tho adrian, mounting like this has gotta be illegal too - cos the numberplate's too close to the ground (in the ADR's it says it's gotta be certain distance above the ground)

Yeah - go the RA trim dusk20 ;-) Best most inexpensive mod... and matte black vinyl on the bumper will make a fair difference, even on a black car - makes it look like it's ALL grill instead of grill with bumper between ;-)

This is the proper mount that angles it out parrallel with the axle and that is legal.

here is a better pic on a Evo 8 just so you can see the angle.

Would still be illegal. That's still at an angle to the axle.

Additional to the ADRs the NSW VSI states that the number plate must be able to be clearly read at a distance of 20m and 45 degree angle to either side of the vehicle. I doubt you will be able to read that at 20m and 45degrees to the driver's side of the vehicle. And as point out by Adrian the fact it's a protrusion could give some grief...

Industrial cable ties FTW :P I've got 4 holding my number plate down, it's not going anywhere. BEsides the crooks will have a screw driver but not likely side cutters on them!

Yeah that Evo X one is no where near parallel with the axle!

I'm sure if any mount like that was legal is Aus, Mitsi Aus would've used it, instead of blocking the 2 additional air ducts to the intercooler... Which, I might add, we are the only country to do that.
